Question about tire selection and stock height.

Hi everybody. I purchased some wheels, 18x9.5 +35 for my fk8 and am planning on staying on stock suspension. It is my daily driver and don't want to be scraping as the road suck here.

My question is what is the best tire size to use to fill the wheel gap without rubbing? I've heard 255/40. Please advise. I'm new to this. Thanks in advance!!

255/40/18 should fit. That's a little larger than stock, so it won't fill out the wheel gap though.

Yes, that's what I've been noticing. Just curious if others have tried any other sizes to close the gap a bit more than 255/40 without rubbing on stock suspension. Thanks for the input.

With +35 offset it might be harder to go wider/bigger. There are some people that run 265/40, but they tend to have a higher offset rim. I’m actually not sure about 255/45 though (it would be taller, but skinnier, than the 265/40 which might already be a tight squeeze if it can indeed squeeze).

with a +35 offset, 255/40 will rub on the outer fender in certain bumps/road undulations, so you will need either a higher offset wheel, run 245/40 or maybe 255/35 tire, or just roll your fenders

If you wanted to have the exact same mileage/performance you would want that radius to be as identical as possible, though that is not always possible. You can pretty easily calc the radius from the tire size measurements.

The low down to calc "stock" size is:

(First number * 0.second number)/25.4=sidewall in inches.

The first number is the width in mm of the tire. The second is the ratio of sidewall to the width. So on a 255/40/18 tire, the sidewall is 255*0.4=102mm divide that by 25.4 to get to inches and you have a 4.02" sidewall.

The stock tire is a 245/30/20 which means a 2.89" sidewall.

Now take your wheel size and divide by 2 (to get the radius) and add the sidewall height. For the stock wheel/tire your radius is 10+2.89 = 12.89" and for the 255/40/18 it's 9+4.02=13.02".

Or, you can use the easy way, and use a site like this that calcs the difference for you because you're lazy like me. This site is also great for comparing offset and other resources around your tires.
