I heard a lot smaller number (like 900 units for US).
But I have a more serious question: shouldn't the plaque inside the car match the last digits of the VIN? or are they two completely different things?

001116 does not match 01013...whats' up with this? :what::hmm:

I assume some VINs have been set aside for testing, media, "production throw-aways", etc?

...maybe to be exact, 103 of them have been set aside?

I'd be interested to see other VIN/SN numbers to try to correlate a pattern...
This is still bugging me a bit...
So the plaque number is offset from the VIN by 103 units...this being said, is CTR with plaque # 1014 should have VIN 001117, correct? :what: or will the plaque #'s be completely random from the VINs? :hmm:

I don't know about this generation CTR specifically but the last 3 generation Civic Type Rs plaque numbers were random and there was no meaning behind them. Basically the person building the car just grabs whatever plaque is laying in the bin. I'm guessing that is still the case?

So basically if I give Honda the plaque number, the won't be able to track down the VIN (and Vise Versa)? Then why the plaque? {scratch head emoji}

Probably not. During ITR production, plaque numbers had no official link with the VINs. We can always start an unofficial plaque/VIN system though.

Honda isn't the only one...my '07 STi Limited came with a plaque and its number did not match anything on the VIN

EDIT: yep, checked the VIN again → JF1GD77667L500412

Our question lies if the #1000 refers to USA cars or just total production world wide coming out of the plant?

In another words how many we are getting here so we can decided if it's a good idea to wait for CW or whichever..LOL.

Maybe they just want to give everyone the illusion of exclusivity?

there was like 1500 mazdaspeed proteges that was produced, didn't have a badge but the vins were in sequential order so MSP club were able to decipher the serial#.

Regarding the VIN... Last year when the 2017 Ridgeline was released and many of us were tracking its every move under a microscope like some of you are with the Type R, we began noticing inexplicable sequence/serial numbers. For example, one Ridgeline might show a production date of June '17 and arrive at the dealer in July and have a VIN ending in 8500. Another might show production and delivery dates a month later and have a VIN ending 7300. It generally followed that a higher VIN indicated a later build, but this was not always the case. Sometimes a new Ridgeline would arrive at a dealer months later with a very low VIN.

I think the vin number is already made by the millions and when the car come out from the factory they are randomly pick out of the bucket, but the production number badge should be in order of their produce
