As some of you may have heard, we’ve been experimenting with a variety of MAF upgrade prototypes over the past year two years. To lay any rumors to rest - Yes, we had originally planned on offering the community a MAF sensor upgrade instead of a MAF housing upgrade. We worked with a few different companies to help us calibrate a couple of prototype MAF sensors that were eventually tested in-house and provided to outside sources for third-party testing. Though we were extremely happy with initial results, we seemed to face every obstacle imaginable trying to bring this to market. From lack of interest or response by sensor calibrating companies, to the high price tag by those who were willing to tackle the project, to the fact that Honda uses a hard-to-find Hitachi MAF sensor for the FK8 that differs from the readily available “standard” Hitachi MAF sensors. Given all of these obstacles, MSRP would’ve been rather pricey, with limited supplies, low margins for our Dealers and the high possibility of sensor damage during shipping transit or mishandling. After many months of struggle, we decided to throw in the towel and focus our energy elsewhere.

Honda Civic 10th gen PRL Motorsports Race MAF Housing Upgrade for HVI Race_maf_comparison_3

A billet Race MAF housing (and silicone hose) upgrade allows us shift the bulk of production in-house, and keeps costs similar to our 1.5T Civic MAF Housing Upgrade - roughly half of what our MAF sensor upgrade would’ve had to retail at. Our engineers were able to profile the volute and locate the MAF sensor flange in the optimal location to help keep fuel trims stable. This Race MAF housing upgrade will offer a 45 - 50% increase in airflow volume in comparison to the factory MAF housing or our Street (standard HVI housing) depending on final size, which is enough to support 600 - 650 horsepower using the factory MAF sensor. Final numbers will be released shortly, as will our pre-order release. Target ship date for this product is Q2-Q3 of 2021. This will require a tune and is only compatible with our High Volume Intake System.

any difference between the rampage and PRl? i know they do the same thing but which one is better?
Time will tell. PRLs will be more expensive, Rampage has more color options. PRL might have a slight advantage by not having to taper down to the original pipe diameter, but unless you’re maxing out the Rampage it’s not going to make a difference

I would’ve paid $400-$500 for a sensor, sucks the manufacturers didn’t like the margins.

They’re including a silicone pipe with it (they already sell the normal one separately for $90) and the housing is billet instead of extruded aluminum. It is almost certain to be more than $180.

yes, the rampage MAF doesn’t change the size the silicone pipe attaches to and the inlet pipe is after that.

I have a feeling this option will probably be more *consistent* from car to car than Rampage's at a minimum due to being precisely billet machined instead of extrusion and welding, as well as the lack of a restriction right after the MAF. Plus the custom silicone pipe is nice. Just two different priced products, really. I'll be trying them both out. PRL's will no doubt have a basemap in Hondata too.

Our MAF housing is larger (current prototype is over 3.7" ID), does not taper down and is profiled to provide steady fuel trims. The Rampage piece is another well-made solution for the price, but it will "max" out before our MAF housing and will most likely not match our fuel trims due to the designs/manufacturing processes. - Please do not take this as a stab or bash against Rampage our anybody for that matter.

As much as we wanted this to happen as well, we just do not thing that this was the best solution at the end of the day. These sensors are rather fragile, so we worried about shipping/mishandling issues. Availability of the FK8-style sensor came into play and would most likely be a limiting factor. A "standard" Hitachi-style sensor could've been used with a jumper harness, but we worried about harness failure over time like other communities experience (ie Subaru). We felt that a larger MAF housing could not only provide more power simply due to the larger ID, but that it would also offer a cost-effective increase in MAF sensor resolution.

MSRP is targeted between $250-275.
