I see that the gas cap on the CTR says premium recommend not required. So i could use 87 in the tank without any issues or would there be any?

Premium gas is $6+ here in southern Cali everywhere except for Costco. Trying to save money if I can.

Please don't save a few dollars to f-up your 40k car. If you can't afford the gas swing and things are that tight, I'd really recommend selling the car outright and getting something for cash as a utility car.

There's a reason why 91 is recommend for the Type R. Using anything lower than recommendation robs power, having worse knock retard, and you are likely going to be running lean that way. Please use the recommended gas. Or sell the Type R and get a base model Civic Sedan instead.

I wasn't paying attention one time and accidentally put regular gas in my Si (previous car). I caught my mistake after a couple of gallons and immediately stopped pumping the gas. I went inside the store, bought some octane booster, put it in the tank and then continued to fill half of the tank up with premium. After driving it like a grandma for a couple of days, I filled it back up with premium and went back to driving like I usually do.

No harm done, but I would never willingly put regular gas in a car that calls for premium (especially one with a turbo).

Youtube video for running 87 octane in a premium car.

Bro.

Let's do some simple math for an example:
Regular gas: 11 gal @ $5.69 gal is $62.59
Premium gas: 11 gal @ $6.19 gal is $68.09
It's $5.50 more for premium. You're freaking out over $5.50 a fill up. The $68 to fill up a civic should be p!ssing you off, not the 50 cent difference lol. Even if you fill up twice a week that's an extra $44.00 a month for premium. Dude just pay the money lol. Anything you break on the car as a result of being cheap and running 87 is going to cost wayyyyy more than $5.50 to fix lol.

From the owner manual:

Honda Civic 10th gen Premium 91 gas vs 87 regular 1648083715777

If you're fine with metallic knocking noise in the engine be my guest

Don’t put 87 in a type r. Not even I do that in my si. It’s only a few dollars different here in CA. If you have to go to Costco, go. It’s empty and night right before they close and in the morning right when they open.

My wife did the same thing with her Si, except she filled it.

I was away someplace so she called the dealership in a mild panic. They tried not to laugh, but she said they did anyway.

They told her to drive easy for a while and then add some 93, but not to worry about it.

In her current car, a 2.0T Accord, all she uses is 87 in it, and it's fine. I've tried 93 in it a couple of times. I don't see much difference. The mileage is very slightly better, but that's it.

Lets put it this way. Assuming putting regular actually does no harm to the engine. You do get less performance and poorer fuel efficiency. So per DRUSA's calculation, by saving $5.50 a tank, you ended up having less range of driving.

Now you tell me how much have you saved with 87 in an FK8 -_-"
