Hey all,

Enjoying the hell out of my 19 R. Have just over 700 miles on it. One observation I’ve made is that the power delivery hits harder than other times. I’m noticing this in 3rd gear which sometimes will feel real strong and around 5500rpm, where an Si’s power would drop off, the R gets a little “shove” of power. I don’t know if I’m feeling the VTEC on the exhaust side or what, but its not consistent. Other times I won’t feel that little extra shove around the 5500rpm mark.
Is this normal or is my vtec malfunctioning LOL
Thanks

vtec doesnt really work the same as older honda motors.

It is only on the exhaust side and is active during cruising and being in high boost, and not active during turbo spool up and light loads.

This car is very sensitive to temperatures. What your experiencing is most likely heatsoak. It is hard to say with the information you have given out so far.

Heat soak would make sense. I’m just surprised to experience it during the first pull. I am in south Florida so it is hot and humid.

I am in south florida too, just received intercooler so i have not installed yet.
But 2 things that woke it up immensely while being stock is :

-ACT Sensor mod
-Pipercross Air filter https://www.dream-automotive.com/products/pipercross-panel-filter-1

The pipercross is way ahead of the K&N.
Haven’t heard of that brand. I was leaning towards the PRL high flow intake if anything. I’ll check out that sensor mod as well.
Don’t really want to start modifying the type R. I had dumped a lot of money into my si and just want to enjoy the R for what it is and not worry about a warranty denial because I tampered with the car. Just wanted to make sure there isn’t wrong with it more or less
