Did you purchase it from a Honda dealer, dealer, used car lot, or private party? If the car wasn't Honda CPO you're going to have a hard time getting this repaired under the standard Honda warranty.
I bought it from a non-Honda dealership. It was at a Toyota dealership where it was bought from.

Also, what would a leak-down test help with or show?

A leakdown test is basically a reverse compression test.

So a compression test the piston builds pressure that you measure and compare

A leakdown test you inject air into the cylinder and see how much its holding or "leaking" with the valves closed

In an over rev the most common problem is hitting a valve. A leakdowm would help determine if you hit and slightly bent a valve

..and the "adjusted" valve may be the culprit.

What type warranty did Toyota provide - a 12/12 may save your bacon?
Worth asking if you're sure you didn't "money shift".

The problem is though, Honda does not have a time stamp of the over rev. Toyota won't pay out of pocket for something he cannot prove.

That said, I would still highly reccomend you reach out to Toyota and see if they can do anything for you. Nothing to lose

If Toyota's warranty is still in effect, it may not matter - It would be in Toyota's Court to prove they didn't sell a defective vehicle. I'm assuming California has a very strong consumer protection law.

Avez-vous acheté votre type r neuf?
No, I bought it used with about 15,000 miles in November of 2020 and noticed the noise after a few months. I have been driving the car with no issues this whole time. Sometimes the noise is more noticeable than others, but I don’t know if that’s just due to the fact that I’m actively listening for the noise.

Im glad im not the only one who experienced this....I'm so use to it now that I get passengers asking what the noise is...I'm just hoping its normal since its always been there since new for me
