Just purchased a set of ze40 today, 18 inch 9.5j et44, now my fk8 is oem height, no intention to lower the body. How should I choose the size of the tires? Is it 255 40 18 for both front and rear tires? Or are the front tires 255 40 18 and the rear tires 245 40 18.
I often see people choose different widths for the front and rear tires, with matching front 265 35 18 and rear 245 40 18.

I'd go 255/40 all around.

Yes. I would probably do 265/35. I currently have 255/40 and that’s what I’m switching to.
Listen to you guys, it seems that the front and rear tires 255 40 18, in oem height, is a very good choice

I debated this as well. While I would love to lower the car, I live in Upstate NY. The roads here are atrocious. I ended up going with 255/40/18. I also considered how far off the speedo would be, so I ran the numbers for a few sizes. The 255/40 was pretty close.

Just mounted 255/40/18 last week. I'm really happy with them, but I'm not planning to lower. I already scrape in my parking garage...

^ And that's just it. The OP isn't planning on lowering. That's why I suggested 255/40 as a perfect fit.

IMO 265/35 will look "meh" on an unlowered car (looks great lowered) because it increases fender gap a bit. Plus the tradeoffs of a more inaccurate speedometer and a rougher ride.

I'm running 265/35r18 Yokohama Advan Apex tires. I have the same size wheels and like the width of the 265 tire. The Advan Apex is not a very long lasting tire though. I've been pleased with traction and handling, but I'll probably get a little over 16k miles on them. They were more affordable and available than the Michelin PS4 at the time. The 255/40r18 is another good choice and will give you .37" more sidewall that the 265 option.

Are you running that tire year round?? Curious cause I'm leaning towards the Advan Apex tire as well when my wheels come in.

Thank you for your reply, are you also the same size 255 40 18 front and rear tires?

I heard that after installing 265 35, it will make the control slightly sluggish, is that really true?

After reading everyone's advice, I have a high probability of choosing front and rear tires for 255 40 18, and may buy ADVAN A050

I am running the Advan Apex year round. To be fair I live in Houston, TX. The coldest weather we might see is just below freezing maybe for a day or so. Wet traction is acceptable for a 280tw performance tire. I'm sure the Michelin PS4 wet traction would be a little better, but they were not available when I needed to order and they were 30%+ more than the Advan Apex. I'm not unhappy with them, but I might try to Michelins next.
