Hey guys,

Something to check for EARLY before it's too late-
I took off my passenger side tail light and discovered...the paint was rubbed off down to the metal. I'll try to attach a picture below.
I haven't been to the dealer yet. I really really didn't want to have to get the car sprayed. I'm hopeful they can confine the repair to the area behind the tail light-

Good luck-

Brian

That's nothing new. A lot of new cars has that issue. Both my CTR and the ILX and my 9th gen SI I traded in had the same issue. Usually only on one side for some odd reason. Friend who does PDI at honda told me a lot of cars come in with a paint chip at the same exact place by the tail light. I just applied some touch up paint and went on with my day.

If you bring it into the dealer, they are not gonna spray the car. They'll just remove the tail light, apply some touch up paint, reinstall and give it back to you.

I knew these cars would have the issue like a lot of new cars. Tolerances are too tight and vibration rubs the paint..

Touch up and move on, not worth a respray/mess.

My primary concern is preventing rust - especially in an area like that which may hold a little moisture after a wash/rinse.
I'll pull the other tail light this evening and check it out, then set something up with the dealer.

just scuff it up using small section of sand paper on the tip of a pen or something, apply primer with a art brush, touch it up.

If you are really worried, maybe put some black felt tape after you do the above.

I would still use the touch paint, I had this problem near the side markers and I just applied touch up pain there. Checked again this past weekend and no issue. It gets moisture in that area due to the bumper.

I pointed this out to the service advisor when I brought it in my some kind of fluid leak.

Advisor tells me that the tech said it's because of LED bulbs...Never touched the taillight and you can even see the original halogen bulbs through the lens. I was not pleased with them about this.

So did anybody try putting some type of spacer to prevent this? Perhaps some type of double sided mounting foam tape from Home Depot?

Just paint it with touch up. My hatchback had this but my coupe was fine. It’s not great but it’s not a huge deal. The touch up paint should work fine.

I was gonna use Dr color chip when it gets worst, but my understanding is that it may just rub right through a 2nd time unless we put something to dampen the twilight?

If you put spacers, you are just asking for moisture to seep in…
