overland designs' alcantara bespoke dash hood/cover install and review

overland designs' newly released alcantara dash hood...installed the first one available.

it is simply amazing quality, using the right automotive grade alcantara material - not upholstery grade alcantara like others which is the wrong material. fit and finish is top notch quality....magnificent and exquisite!

they sold out of the first batch shortly after i posted the full install and review. the 2nd batch of 20 available next week is already half sold. there's a members only 10% discount code in the post.

I’ve heard from those who had Sweidit that it doesn’t fit. I’ve seen it in person and tried to help the owner. No dice.

Reason is because Sweidit is upholstery longer nap suede and not automotive alcantara. Therefore it becomes thicker and makes fit not perfect.

Overland Designs is different and tight as OEM.

Reason is because Sweidit is upholstery longer nap suede and not automotive alcantara. Therefore it becomes thicker and makes fit not perfect.

That's odd, I was able to place an order just now... Or does it not show up as sold out on their site and still take payment? Though the only thing I like on the Sweidit (over this) is the stitching that goes down the length of the visor hood; it looks nice aesthetically. But yes, it simply doesn't fit unless you cut the alcantara on the edge(s).

Just ordered the shift boot and gauge visor from overland. Any insight on what kind of maintenance is needed for these items or maybe something like a fabric guard application would be enough?

Below applies to all suede/alcantara fabrics.

To clean, use very sparingly spray of 303 cleaner or Sonax on an MF towel and wipe then wipe dry with another MF towel. When wiping cleaner try not to press into material else you’re just pushing stains or dirt into material. If stain is more or stubborn, use a horse hair brush and work the cleaner with the brush - again don’t press in. Dry with MF towel.

Let everything air dry then vacuum with a brush adapter or use the horse hair brush to lift the nap and all back to normal.

For protection I use 303 outdoor fabric guard with a foam brush to “paint” on the protectant. Search the forum for my application method of 303.

good thing I stumbled upon this post as I was going to place an order with Sweidit. Don't get me wrong their stuff looks sick but if it doesn't fit correctly my ocd will take over.

one of team cars installed in 3 mins and 5 secs. seriously, if anyone can't do an install in under 5 mins then may not want to touch this super simple mod ;-)

shown here is the black with red underside and red stitching same as i've done in my car.

another of our team car with all black and single red stitching installed. it's understated and rich looking...again, the alcantara used by overland is the proper automotive grade with the nap matching perfectly with the oem interior alcantara.

also note all overland visors fit perfectly tight just like the oem visor, no gaps and cannot come off unless you want to remove it.

recommendations:

• do not get red alcantara top. anything except black will reflect badly on the windshield.
• do not get red stitching of any kind on top which will reflect on the windshield.
• simply use a black mf towel to wipe the visor (or any alcantara) clean if dusty.
