I accidentally filled up with 87 octane. It shouldn't hurt the car should it?

Nah just once it will be fine.. if you do it constantly yea probably . But theres already some 91 in that tank mixing in too. If it bothers you after a 1/4 of gas is gone just add some 91.

If it were me I’d drive the car easy and add 93 incrementally as you deplete some of the 87 to increase the overall octane level. Maybe once at 3/4 tank and then again when you hit 1/2 tank.

Actually I would probably just siphon it into my wife’s vehicle, but the above should work as well.

I'd sell the car. That engine is a ticking time bomb.

Seriously though just take it easy on this tank. No redline runs and if you are on the highway or freeway shift down immediately if you need more power as tipping the throttle in low RPM's in 5th and 6th gear brings on a lot of knock. Don't mix in 91 as you just end up going longer with lower octane gas. Take it down below 1/4 tank then fill with 91 or whatever is the highest octane in your area. The ECU will retard timing when necessary to prevent excessive knock so there's little risk of damage on one tank. You would be surprised how many dealerships will fill regular in premium only cars which is why I ask they never fill the car for me at delivery.

No negative consequences, the civic doesn't require high octane it "recommends" it. Just refill with higher octane next time.

Nooooooo!!! Why put that poison in your baby? Well, at least I know I am not alone in accidently filling it up with the lowest Octane.

Are you from Oregon?

I ended up driving around on the freeway to use up the fuel... Check out the awesome MPG!!

87? Never seen that kind of fuel before. Here I usually fill 95, and if the station have 98, I add that in between.

Hey Wabby, octane is the US is not the same as RON in Europe. Octane =( RON+MON )/2.
