My car's leased so I want as few permanent mods to it as possible, and plus I just like to avoid drilling into a car if I can, so I came up with this amp rack idea and thought I'd share for anyone else in the same position.

It's going where the factory sub was (assuming you've upgraded to a better sub like I have) so this will only work for the cars that have one.

Cut a 1/2" piece of MDF in a square big enough to cover the sub's four mounting holes, then cut a circle approximately the size of the subwoofer hole from 3/4" MDF. Those thicknesses are important for a flush fit. Eh, well, I guess the square piece could be any thickness really, except too tall might hit the rear deck cover. Glue them together with wood glue.

Mount it using the bolts from the factory sub and that gives you this:

A nice flat surface flush with the underside of the deck that you can screw something into.

I re-used the amp board I'd previously mounted down in my spare tire well. I used four wood screws to hold it up to the round piece coming down through the subwoofer hole.

The only other thing I had to do was use two zip ties to move the seatback release cable above this metal bracket (it normally hangs down below the bracket on a clip and was blocking the board from sitting flat)

And viola, it's done. The board I have there is 21" across, so there's room left to mount a second amp I plan to buy soon.

Great idea! An excellent way to get the amp out of the way for a clean install!
