Honda Civic Type R announced the postponement of the release of the minor change version scheduled for this summer on the website the other day.
I can't wait for information about the new release date, but in the meantime, information on the 2022 next model, that is, full model change, came in!!!

■ Big minor change version postponed release this summer again
The current Civic Type R debuted in July 2017, but the base Civic itself has appeared in North America, followed by Europe in the fall of 2015, and a full model change of the Civic itself is planned next year, 2021 And development is in progress.
Type R is also available for the next-generation Civic, and like the current model, development with Type R in mind has been underway since the beginning.
Honda Civic 10th gen Next-Gen Honda Civic Type R Gets 395 Horsepower From Electric Rear Axle: Report 20200726_CIVIC_NEW_TYPE-R_08
This is the current type of big minor change that has already been announced. 320ps/40.8lgm engine unchanged
Speaking of the Civic Type R, sales are temporarily suspended at the moment, but as Honda announced it, it is due to a major minor change to further improve the steering performance.
Although the content has already been announced, although the engine specifications have not changed, the opening of the front grill is enlarged to enhance the cooling performance that becomes a neck when driving on the circuit, and the aerodynamic performance deteriorated by it is underspoiler. It is a real maniac, such as keeping it almost even by devising the shape etc.
For chassis tuning, we have also made changes to improve the trackability by reducing the friction of the front ball joint and the rear ground contact by increasing the amount of rear suspension toe-in, which is also a maniac but surely raises the level.
Originally, this Big My Chen had already been planned to start selling, but it has been announced that the release will be postponed due to the influence of the new coronavirus.
It is the information of the "next generation type R" in the middle of that.
■400ps with 2L turbo + motor!?
The Best Car Scoop Team captured the appearance of the Type R, which is based on the body of the new Civic that repeats test runs.
Honda Civic 10th gen Next-Gen Honda Civic Type R Gets 395 Horsepower From Electric Rear Axle: Report 20200726_CIVIC_NEW_TYPE-R_03b
Prediction CG by the best car. By optimizing the shape of the body, aerodynamic additives are minimized, giving a refreshing impression.
Although the test car is camouflaged, it is clearly a new model with a silhouette that is clearly different from the current Civic.
It is clear from the engine sound that it has a turbo engine. Perhaps this is an in-line 4-cylinder 2L turbo, like the current model.

This is also a predicted CG by the best car. As for Honda, there is a reflection that the aerodynamic adjunct for downforce is the drag factor in the current Type R.
More interesting information is that the new Civic Type R will use torque vectoring 4WD, which drives the rear wheels with two motors.
This has been put to practical use in the legend, and the system that has been reversed before and after is adopted in NSX.

The engine is expected to be equipped with an in-line 4-cylinder turbo that will also be installed in the current model. According to the latest information, it is equipped with a system that drives the rear with two motors like the one adopted in Legend, and the system output will be 400 ps!
By driving the rear wheels with a motor, the system output can reach 400ps, while achieving more stable maneuverability.
A full model change for the entire Civic is planned for next year, and the Type R is planned for 2022.

Hopefully they update the cooling system when on the race track with the 2021 model ?
It does say "the opening of the front grill is enlarged to enhance the cooling performance". Nothing about the cooling system itself though, but this is a site translation; sometimes things get missed.

I wonder how much weight it will gain? Could be a deal breaker.
I agree. In order to maintain a similar power to weight ratio the electric motors and batteries would have to add less than 950 pounds to the car. I'm not versed enough in electric cars to know if this is a reasonable expectation.

Take this with a grain of salt. People have been saying there will be a new Toyota 86 for a 1000 years now, all backed by "reports"

(There is a new 86 coming, but the reports were all BS so far)

How come the back rendering looks like a Honda Odyssey and the front of a Golf?

I should have said "inb4..."

Post on Motor Trend's render of the 11th Gen:

(regarding R)
A year or two in, have an electric rear axle for 4-wheel stability drive (weather, rally/autoX). Bump combined peak power to 385.
A bit more humbly, though it may not sound it, that was an obvious and not some grand prediction. From an engineering-ish perspective, the simplest route to more power from the platform is to fill in the gap that is the non-powered rear. It is less work than creating a traditional AWD, and doesn't require a massive overhaul of the powertrain. Transmission losses, a driveshaft, and clutch considerations would all be slower to develop and place in a car than, what folks will likely call it, "slapping on an electrified rear."

Rather than an electric axle, it could be electric motor hubs in the rear. This would produce better weight distribution and driving feel. That approach may even allow for a base model R and the electrified variant to share even more common design.

This is just some random 'news site' that saw some posts on other sites like it and are echo chambering it without linking to any sort of reference or even saying they have an anonymous source. They post shit like this because they know we're all foaming at the mouth for info on our cars, but ultimately it's just the same rumor.

There's zero proof of anything about the next Type R, and not even a reputable source for any of the rumors.

The only thing we have is some spy shots of a changed body. It shouldn't even be called a rumor, it's an ad-cash-grab hoax.

Those tail lights look terrible as does the USB exhaust tip. Looks like a dude wearing shades from the rear.

I'm really happy Honda took a page out of fatherpain's garage and installed a vented hood and larger grille to solve the well-documented overheating issue. The additional battery and electric motors will also effectively fix the current model's glaring weakness and finally enable it to travel more than 300 miles, allowing it to effectively compete against the long-range Model 3. Great job, Honda! Can't wait to see it.

These are some spy shots of the current Type R, and it looks nothing like them. Wouldn't be surprised to see more bait and switch being used here early on for testing mules, with the actual fascia coming to light later on. At least, I hope there's some bait and switch going on, that wing looks off. Why would the base need to extend all the way up the hatch?

*Next gen 86 is going to have a 2.4l turbo flat 4 pumping 250hp/200ftlbs, will be based on the TGNA platform, and will be even lighter.*

People eat this shit up.
