So I got some damage to my hood yesterday. I dont think its bad enough to replace the hood but some dents will need to be pulled out and a spot repainted. It looks like the damage is down to the metal. My question is, do they need to respray the whole hood or just that area? I know when I was younger pearls/metallic were a pain to match so they would have to repaint the whole panel. I dont know if thats still a thing. I just want to make sure the insurance/shop doesnt screw me by only painting the area, if the whole thing needs redone.

Yes sir that will also need some welding and hopefully they dont just bend back the bent metal. They will have to repaint the whole hood.Usually for a hole you have to grind it to bare metal and usually when there is a dent its bigger than you see plus thats right on a contour line from what i see so they will have to expand their area..and THEN weld soo by the time they done they might as well paint it all.Or you could do it yourself.Check out my threads on Auto body painting.

Luckily its not a hole. It just all the way down to metal.

Well thats good news.Cheaper for you.You can try to request for them to just fix the dent and match the paint to that area and not paint the whole hood so it can be more affordable bc you dont have money to get a whole hood painted, but they; like i said , usually go the whole hood route because its way easier and faster and it comes out more professional.Being pearl white and being right on the hood where the basecoat is highly visible it can become a tricky thing.I've never done or seen a paint job to where you matched a paint right smack in the middle of an auto part is what i am saying but just ask and see if they will give the option.
