Good luck on your quest. I am encountering similar challenges in my hunt as well. I would second the notion of going out of state and driving it back home if possible. The weather is nice and most people have been stuck at home the last year so a good road trip might be worth it.

I thought about the road trip idea but everything is just very far. I’m in west coast and all the MSRP dealers are more so towards east side.

I strongly encourage you to seek a better deal. I have a 2020 CTR. OTD price was $40,579.00.

36,995 = MSRP + 995.00 (dealer destination charge) + 249.00 (service fee) + 2101.00 (state tax @ 5.5%) + 279.00 (license fee) = $40,579.00

I know for a fact that my Honda dealer has sold 5 CTRs at MSRP and I have one of them. I am also aware of at least 4 other CTRs sold in other parts of the state at MSRP. I live in Wisconsin and if you call around you will be able to pay MSRP without any add ons.

Rent a car, drive to the dealer, close the deal and drive home. Along the way you will use up some or all of the 600 break-in miles.

I've spoke to roughly 15 different dealerships within 150 miles of me on the East Coast using this website to guide me along for the last 2 weeks and haven't found a single one selling at MSRP. They all want somewhere in the range of 3-5k markup regardless of color for anything currently sitting on the lot. It's been much more difficult than I originally anticipated with this car, esp if you're hoping to find something new locally. Keep diligent and remain patient, something good will turn up!

Wow your dealer removed the dealer delivery destination fee? That seems locked with any dealer I've spoken to not even just Honda. $995 and I believe they are increasing that price.

37,950+995 = 38,890 * 7.25% sales tax = $41,709.52 excluding any plates or fees... $42k+ is a realistic goal for our states with higher sales tax and some how not excluding honda's destination delivery charge.

I got my 2020 for a little less than 41K OTD. For me the "out of state" purchase doesn't add up in the long run. Let me explain.
1) You'll have to pay for shipping the car back to your place, which can add up (plane ticket, car rental, etc).
2) In California, told by a friend of mine who is a smog inspector, say that registering an out of state car has to be smogged (of course) and you lose the 8 years exemption for your first smog test. The car will be exempt for only 4 years instead on 8 and after the 4 years, you have to get it smog every 2 years.
3) In our manual, a road trip is not really advisable since it says "do not stay in one constant RPM. So when you're in a "road trip" you are in a constant rpm going the speed limit.

Just my 2cents.

You guys are really getting fucked out there.

I paid 35k + 750 shipping and dmv fee which did not cross over even onto 40k after all said and done.

This was a brand new 2019 shipped more than a year sgo.

Type R is not worth 47k OTD.
You do realize the new and used car market is different than a year ago? As I've stated before, I and others paid around invoice (I was $50 above invoice) in Q4 2019 for a new 2019. Sounds like you bought a new 2019 in April 2020. MSRP is a solid deal now...

I've shipped a number of cars. My CTR was shipped from Sarasota FL to Denver for $875 (open). Rates vary but major cities should generally run <$1 regardless of time of year.

Do what works for you but...

I've drove a rental, flown, shipped - $100 - $1000 depending on option.

Hope your friend is right but one smog test in four years (assuming you keep the car that long) doesn't sound like that much of an inconvenience.

What's wrong with 4th and 5th?

Sorry I made the edit that showed the DDC. So now: 36,995 = MSRP + 995.00 (dealer destination charge) + 249.00 (service fee) + 2101.00 (state tax @ 5.5%) + 279.00 (license fee) = $40,579.00

Amazing! You got almost $1000 off 2020 msrp. I haven’t heard of anyone getting that.

2020 MSRP = $37,895.

I just bought one at MSRP 1.5 weeks ago and am shipping it back to me (should be here by this weekend, hopefully).

Seems like the landscape has changed quite a bit since when most people in this thread bought theirs. Cost to ship mine 2300 miles is $1,850 for open transit and that was right in the middle of the 5 - 6 quotes I got from reputable shippers/brokers. Not sure if covid has had an impact on shipping, but I don't think it's realistic to ship across the country right now for <$1000 based on my experience these past two weeks.

OTD cost for me living in a high sales tax state will be about $46k including shipping. $39,285 (MSRP w/ dest fee) + $130 doc fee + $4,144 (10.55% sales tax) + $650ish registration + $1,850 shipping = ~$46,060.

I took delivery in late May of 2020, I think the MSRP price was raised either just after or just before I took delivery. But it was at 37,895 for me.

it’s now 37,895+995. It’s on all the window stickers plus on Honda.com

i had no idea they upped MSRP during the model year. I know they have done it between each model year.
