New to the forum... 2019 civic type r owner. Currently have OEM rims with pilot sport 4s tires. Trashed a rim on a pothole and tired of all the problems the low profile tires on 20" rims cause. Can anyone recommend 19" rims that can handle a bigger tire... I'm willing to buy online, but would prefer a good shop in Los Angeles where I can do it in person. Thanks for suggestions...

(I've read that there are acura NSX wheels that are good replacement... thoughts?)

Thanks!

MR 924 with 255/35R19 is the budget friendly replacement setup for 19" (cast Wheel)

NSX wheel, titan 7, CE20, ZE40 or TE37 will be you more expensive options. (forge wheels)
So on the MR 924 you recommend 255 over 245? Stock wheels are 245... And tire rack suggest 245 when paired with the 924s.... Is there a performance hit with going with 255? Thanks for responding.

It's better with 255 if you want exact oem geometry feel. 245 works but since your et is different it feels a bit different.
Either will work

Not to be a dunce or anything, but how are the roads in LA that bad? I'd figure with the stable friendly climate they'd be solid. There's no huge winter dip in temps and no salting.

LA roads are very hit and miss... They are slow to repair potholes and with stock wheels it can be a white knuckle ride... especially on the freeways... Some bridges and sections change materials and have 1/2 in offset... hitting one of those feels like an instant flat tire... Just yesterday, I hit one and it destroyed the rim... oddly... I did not get a flat tire (brand new pilot 4s) but similar happens way too often. (And my wife has experienced it a few times and now refuses to drive my car!!!)

Holy crap man, sorry to see that. I've gotten a few little nicks but nothing like that where the wheel integrity is affected.

My suggestion would be to downsize to 18x9.5 +45 wheels, with 265-35-18 tires.

No rubs, looks great even non lowered and the additional rubber definitively helps… Was skeptical and held off for awhile… then nearly took myself out hitting a pothole on the freeway at speed in the rain. Bent the passenger OEM front rim and blew a golf ball sized chunk out of the sidewall, but miraculously it didn’t blow.

Downsizing was one of the best upgrades (out of many) that have been done to the car. I street and occasionally track.

Am afraid 19’s wouldn’t significantly address what you are looking for (safety). Most people that downsize seem to go with 18’s.

/\ I actually went with 19" NSX rims at first as I was looking for a similar offset to OEM.
I have since switched to 18x9.5 +45 myself and I am very happy with the mix of performance and "streetability".

What rims do you recommend for downsizing to 18? Hoping to not spend a fortune...
