Owner of EU civic (no OEM subwoofer).
I needed good bass in the car to complete the installation of a pair of Focal front, powered by a Hertz amp.
I never like the idea of a subwoofer box taking up space in my trunk.
So after reading some threads here and watching some videos I took the decision to try for a custom sub box in place of the OEM.
Since it's custom, I reached the limit with a 10" sub.

The sub I chose is Focal P25FSE.
Firstly because is the same series with the front speakers so to "match" the sound.
Since focal suggests to provide MIN 10cm distance from end of magnet to the back of the box, the shallow subs seem the most appropriate for such limited, "space optimal" sub enclosures.

Very nice, how thick is the fiberglass? Do you have any numbers on internal volume? And what kind of amp are you using?

It took at least 3 months to finish it! (Also corrected some bad corners...). So at the end didnt have the patience to do the water measurement an wait to dry. I estimate it reached at least 10 liters.
The cut-and-rebuilt corners have ~2mm thicknes (2 layers). The rest 3-4 layers. But it's ridig in every part! I used polyester resin which is much cheaper than epoxy and harder (from what I've read).
The amp is the Hertz HCP4DK. I use the B out bridged. Around 440W.

How do you like shallow focal subwoofer. I had it and I didnt like the sound. According to the specification it requires 18l to perform well. Smaller box will not be a optimal for this speaker. The sound ifrom small box is too boomy imho. What is your opinion.
BTW i changed it for 8 inch jl audio. It sound great.

well... this is my first sub in a car so I can't actually compare with others (non shallow or ported).
If you see the suggested volumes, also the 12l is enough (ok, doesn't go so low in freq).

The box I did, I believe is close to 12l. The sound? Very, very satisfying!! Probably could be better but I'm totally satisfied.
