I envy all of you Type R and Si owners so much that I've changed my front and rear diffusers, added Type R vents, side skirts, trunk wing, roof diffuser, sequential tail lights and HKS SSQ BOV. But today I put my fabrication skills to work and added a fully functional hood vent from the 2010-2014 Shelby Cobra GT500. I think I may be one of the few 10th gen owners to make this transition...oh it also stopped my engine heat problems. Comments please.

It looks good. What kind of heat issues did you have?

I appreciate it bro! I never had any overheating issues, but I noticed the outer housing of the turbo would get really hot after running hard, and that heat would transfer to the hood prop rod. So when opening the hood and grabbing the rod, it'd be like touching a hot iron. After installing the vent, all that heat and hot air has somewhere to go. I shot it with my Lazer thermometer and 30 degree difference, plus my SSQ BOV is noticably loud now.

Wow on the fab work. Any issues with rain?
Also, any more pics with the taillights and other mods? Also also, what other plans do you have in the works?

Thanks man. I think I'm the first to put a mustang Cobra hood vent on a 10th Gen Civic ?. I live here in Kansas, so rain isn't that big of an issue, however when it rained the other day it did get a little wet on top of the engine cover. What I plan on doing is for a quick fix, I'm going to fabricate a plexiglass cover with a bolt going through a tighten it down with a wingnut on the bottom side. I plan on getting bigger wheels (19") in February. I already have the Type R brake/Rotor kit.

Interesting. I like the functional hood scoop. Did you roll the edges or paint/rust protect? How does the HKS BOV look/sound? I went through a TurboXS on mine it was damn near silent though. I now have the Torque Solutions plate. I was bummed because I loved the TurboXS that I used to have on my old EJ20 WRX. The part looked clean, and the machining was second to none, just no flex.

Hey bro, I appreciate your comments! I didn't have to roll the edges because the saw cut really good. When I cut my template out, I cut on the outside of my mark and the hood vent went right in. It came with double sided 3M tape (which I used) and I used black flex seal to prevent water leaks. I also used JB Weld underneath on the crumple zones I cut. The HKS BOV was noticable before the vent mod, but now it's hella loud now since the sound comes straight through the vent and it catches everyone's attention. The engine bay stays cooler as well.

Did you do any more to the underside of the hood? If so, got pics? I've been working on a new hood for mine and need to finish it out underneath. Curious how you did the edges
