I picked up the new issue of Motortrend after seeing a 2020 CTR on the cover.
They stacked it against:
-2020 Mustang Ecoboost
-2020 Veloster N
-2020 Mercedes CLA 45 AMG
-2021 Mini Cooper JCW GP
I’m happy to report the CTR came out on top once again. “The gold standard”.
I like the reference made that if Porsche made a FWD car, it would be the Type R.
What really surprised me though is that they claimed a 0-60 time of 4.1 seconds. Where as the Veloster N did 5.9. CTR 2 seconds quicker? Doubtful. I am doubting this 4.1 is accurate unless it was downhill. 5.1 I would believe.
Thoughts?

Pretty pathetic that it made it to print with that typo. They corrected the online version: 5.1s is the correct number.

I have a 2018 CTR and a 2020 6MT Veloster N.

The N is 85-90% of what the R is, but it is still so damn good. I call the N the CTRs little brother.

It’s also much rawer feeling and very engaging in terms of what you hear and feel, but it doesn’t have that VTEC pull the CTR does, higher in the range. As a result the N is something like 0.8s slower 0-60.

I actually love switching between both cars. There’s plenty of days of the week I’ll drive both the same day.
