I tried out the Hikari's but they worse than the stock halogens for usable light. As I am on a lease, I prefer a PnP option so I started researching GTR lighting LED's. I heard they dont work much better in a projector lens. $200 is too high of a price point for me to test and not be able to return.

I just saw that Hikari released a new design that looks similar to the GTR: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077B5NXP...eF&pd_rd_r=AT5RJV0FMNV0G26237WM&pd_rd_w=YVpn7

With amazon's return policy I may try a pair of these and see if they can match the throw of the stock halogens.

Did the same thing with my older Hikaris.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01L...=QX99XZ04RTPDJTJZWV5J&dpPl=1&dpID=81EPd1Iu-yL

Bought from Amazon... didn't like them... returned for a refund.

I'll be watching the thread in case you get the newer Hikaris. The others looked great on the car, easy PnP and we're dangerous as hell to drive with at night because you couldn't see far enough ahead of you, even with the headlights adjusted, to see within a stopping distance at highway speeds.

I figure, given a little bit of time, they'll get there. If they have a new version, I'd expect they've got to be better... even if they're not there yet.

The new Hikari that use Philips chips should be much better than the Cree in their older model. I own a different brand, same design and Philips G7 chips as well as the Morimotos that cost almost double with Cree chips, the Philips are MUCH better, the throw is twice as long with a better hot spot. I'd say give them a try.

For HID's, is it better to ground to a battery terminal/fuse box, or a chassis bolt?

I've been watching this thread for like half a year, and I'm glad I didn't buy anything yet. It sounds like the newer Hikari LEDs with the Phillips chips might a good PNP option for me, but I think I'll wait till they have more than two Amazon reviews.

There won't be any difference. I usually ground to the chassis to make wire management easier.

I know I'm like a broken record on all these headlight posts, but make sure you're using a relay :p

Thanks for the answer. Wasn't sure if it would cause some kind of issue. - I got the Morimoto 35w HID kit that has the relays and in-line fuse, so should be good. Just have to find a weekend to knock this out. Also putting my current Hikari LED low-beams in my fogs so it's a bit of a project.

TRS did this comparison at the hotspot (where the step is), vs LED, vs HID

HID is the clear winner, but this particular LED (Profile Peak series LED) bulb was better than a halogen H7 bulb by ~30% more light output

The HID kit has way more output

Thanks for posting the video, got some good information.

Comparing the design of the Profile Peak (https://www.theretrofitsource.com/l...lbs/h11-profile-peak-led-headlight-bulbs.html) vs the new Hikari (https://www.amazon.com/HIKARI-Headl...rd_wg=v3zh9&psc=1&refRID=1A57BDXBF7K9MAESQ4FA)

The Profile Peak has the look of the older generation with a thicker "filament", Hikari also boast's Philips LED chips. This gives me a little bit more faith in the real world performance of the Hikari's. I'll probably bite the bullet and be the guinea pig on these.

You're welcome. Our civics are H11. It's H11b if you get a HID bulb because of the ground filament location to avoid shadows in the beam pattern

My recommendation for actual performance on the cheap is to get a H9 halogen bulb and modify it to fit in our H11 housings. That's an easy way to gain ~30% more light than a H11 halogen bulb

If you're gonna spend $$$ on something LED or HID, the HID is a no-brainer if you're after outright performance. The LED options just make no sense at this moment in time (January 25th, 2018) to me.

This link shows

Just giving the old thread a bump.

Anyone try out the newer Hikari's w/the Phillips LEDs yet and have anything good/bad to say about them? I tried the 'Eye of Bablon' or whatever the heck they called them Cree based Hikaris a month or two back and returned them as they were all sorts of suck (no throw).

I bought them over the weekend and they were just delivered, I'll post something up when I get them installed and review them.

The older black box had "eye of megatron" on them .

Initial impression of the updated white box Hikari LED's: The fans run quieter which was appreciated, no vibration within the cabin. They are better than the older version and brighter than stock. Verdict as of now, improvement over the stock halogens.

On the left is a 2016 Acura MDX with the jewel eye LED headlights, from this view the hot spot looks nice and tight. https://imgur.com/a/ziKGQ

Picture of the throw and beam pattern, estimate the end of the road is about 100 ft from the car. https://imgur.com/a/uJw4t

I think adjusting the headlights a tad higher will make a difference but I cannot seem to locate where the adjuster is. I believe its the silver bolt on the bottom of the picture but I turned it quite a but with a long phillips and it didnt make a difference. Am I looking at the wrong bolt? https://imgur.com/a/tBTzG
