Honestly this is why I could never lease. I like to drive way too much.
This.
And mileage overages like OP is experiencing.
And getting f#cked over at turn-in time.
And being coerced into leasing another at return time.
I think more lessees get sandpapered leasing vehicles than they will admit.
Personal opinion only coming up, take it as you will.
Vehicles should only be leased if you can write off ALL expenses, you know, as in a company vehicle that you’re making money with.

If you get another honda/acura lease they usually will waive the overage fees if you push hard enough.
If you walk they’ll get you.

Also maybe look into acura leasing, if you ‘pay up’ on miles on the lease you can roll whatever is extra to the next lease so for 36 months you might pay $30 mor a month (cheaper than your 3k overage) and the next 36 be 30 less( depending on what they are offering.

Also you can walk into ANY dealer right now and trade in your lease. If its in good condition (dealer gets some tax incentives)
You could use pandemic under msrp deals to your advantage

This thread is like, suuuper old, but take this for some info:

I drove my LEASED 2017 sport hatch 72k miles by my TWO YEAR ANNIVERSARY.

...I was in college, had no idea how much I drove, then once I realized my mistakes, it was far too late...

But nevertheless I negotiated with an out of state dealer over the phone and "sold out" my lease. Basically my dealer bought out the Honda "financing" for the lease using the buyout price, and rolled the negative equity difference between the value of the car and that buyout price into the new loan. Depends where you stand though as far as equity in the vehicle... I was looking at over $20k in charges for over miles by the time the lease was up so for me to eat the $4k in negative equity it was a pretty easy choice. Depending on the numbers, this may not make sense for some people.

Dude, two years is nothing.
On the 986forum, people would reply to 9 year old zombie threads regularly.

If you wish you never leased, you can pay off the car in full and keep it. Then it would be like you never leased to begin with. I don't see what the big deal is.

Seriously. This thread is old as hell but if I found myself in that situation, buying the car would be a top option to consider. You've already put money down and are already paying monthly... Just buy it.
