I have a 2018 LX with a leaking condenser that naturally is not covered by my vin number. Thinking about changing it, anyone done it that can give some insight?

Consult the dealer about a partial warrany, reach out to the DPSM (district manager) for goodwill approval. They know there is an issue with the condensers. You maybe able to get a break on the cost if you ask.

I would have the work done at the dealer tbh, not just my bias. We have so many DIY guys try to do this on their own with the Autozone freon cans, morons pump R134a into the new civic's R1234yf system cross-contaminating the whole system and costing even more to repair. Most independent shops don't have R1234yf machines, we have to do the evac/recharge for them via sublet.

People look at me like I'm making it up when I ask for 1234yf. I'm not about to pay dealer price for that though they want just over a grand. There is 0 freon charge in the system currently.

Just curious... you have a 2018, right? How far out of warranty are you? This seems like a case where Honda would take pity on the situation.

See your town A/C shop. Often they are cheaper from the dealer.
My small town A/C shop give me a $200 estimate for condenser replacement.

A/C issue was only a low gas pressure ; $125

There's no freon at all, so I know the condenser at least. From what I gather there's no dye for R1234yf to see if anything else leaks?

Do you know cause of the leakage?
It pays to be proactive and protect condenser and the like from flying debris.

Wish you the best!

Some seals may dry and leak if you don't use A/C for many months like in the winter time.
Now I use A/C at least 15 minutes each month in winter to lubricate the seals.

If I'm not wrong it is write in Civic Owner manual

Take it to an AC specialist and pay out of pocket for now. Contact Honda Corperate and they will refund you. You will need to provide full info on the shop and service.

My condensor took a shit this past summer and I received a refund from corperate.

Are they going to give me any hassle about road damage or some crap like that?
