It is confusing, especially considering the 1.5 is the only one without VTEC, but it's still called a VTEC Turbo because that's the marketing term for this whole engine collection.

The slides in the photos in the article are from Honda themselves on introduction of the engines for the European Civic, and they show that the 1.0 has "DOHC Dual VTC + Intake VTEC", whereas the 1.5 has "DOHC Dual VTC" only. In the thread Design linked to, there's a slide from the technical presentation of the engines for the North American Civic that cites "DOHC Intake/Exhaust VTC" with no mention of VTEC at all. Here's a video with Honda's Chief Powertrain Engineer Yuji Matsumochi where he goes over all the technical aspects of the engine, and at around 2:00 (I tried to link right to it) he mentions the VTC.

Thanks a ton for this!!!!!!

That looks almost identical to the VTC on the Nissan 2.5's that I've worked on...wonder if it's any better

I asked salesman at both local Honda dealerships and they both said the 2017 Si will be released in Spring of 2016 in Southern Ontario.

Couldn't be a bigger lie. The Si hasn't even been announced yet and it's already March 2016. The regular Civic 1.5T/6MT won't be out til next calendar year, so people need to keep dreaming about the Si coming out before then.

I tell you, those salesman will say anything lol I just can't wait until we actually hear from Honda themselves about the specs and release date

Could go either way. I learned that most "insiders" don't know as much as they claim. But I wouldn't be surprised if they waited till calendar year 2017 either. But I do think Spring 2016 is out of the question since it's already March.

Oddly, no one has spied a Si test mule yet, right? This seems strange to me, as we saw sedan, coupe, hatchback and CTR mules.

Here's what my local dealer said today after initially saying Spring.

Our friend HondaPro Jason has shared his speculation on the CivicX Si model, gathered from his own intelligence, sources, and rumors. Note: these are not officially confirmed by Honda in any way.

Si Model Year: No 2016 Civic Si model year. It will be a 2017 model year.
Release: Late Fall 2016 - Early Spring 2017
Specs: 2.0L detuned Type R engine, around 220-230hp, 6 speed manual, many shared parts with Type R.

Other notes:
  • Standard Coupe and Hatchback will be 2016MY.
  • Type R should be released Spring-Summer 2017.
  • All markets will be getting the sedan, coupe and hatchback.
  • Type R will be available in most, but not all markets.

So far, this is all true.

Honda will leave the enthusiast hanging for at least another 8-10 months. On the other hand, whats 8-10 months when its been several years? Subaru, Ford, and VW have my attention.

Another great Honda auto show release. 3 absolutely useless cars with no sign of the Si or Type R. lol. I honestly shouldn't expect more from Honda.

I was really disappointed too. And without any major car shows until the fall, it's going to be a long time until we get even a hint of the si or type r.....

Everyone uses that little word 'should'.
Ah yes, but in this case "should" is followed by "hopefully." This car could very well come out in 2020 or something.

The wait is killing me. . . . . .for some reason.

My roll of the dice is saying that the Si will come out early next year, based on how Honda has been releasing recent new models the past two years.

Further more, my GM and I were discussing this today. We feel that Honda has not decided which engine is going into the Si yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if they are testing both. I do know that AMH wants the 2.0T and has the market analysis to back it up. The question is whether Japan will cooperate (I think they will, based on the direction Hachigo is taking the company).
