Gave it back me more good drive and pulled out the Z for a final photo-op and a drive to make sure it’s up to snuff. Its been garaged since my last deployment… something like 2-3 months.

I’ll be pulling the LED headlights (same as what the Odyssey uses and I kept the halogens)… wireless charger and other bits out and do a little cleaning. I have quite a few parts stored up I never got around to installing… mostly winnings from Dragon events. Jenny’s going to take it over to Carmax Thursday and if they’re good for what they quoted, I’ll be letting her go after 4 years and 40k miles for about MSRP for what the car was new, based on their numbers. (Don’t mind the shadow)

Honda Civic 10th gen Last few days… 64AC7E35-1A8F-4066-9F73-DCA6F6033FAD

Jenny drove the Z around town today… blasted it at WOT on the interstate and prodded me with a “Why the hell haven’t you been driving this!?” I guess the only real reason was the Civic was such a good car, easily to drive and low anxiety of anything breaking that’d be 1) difficult to replace and 2) expensive.

I’ll admit as I was doing some stuff with it last night… clearing out my apps and history for the HondaHack I was a bit sad. It really has been a good car... but it feels like the right time. I was ready to trade out last year… didn’t find a replacement… sat on it another year. When it’s time… it’s time, I suppose. For my DD, at 4 years… I’ve had this car longer than probably any other car before it, other than an Xterra and another 1st gen 300zx over the last 20+ years.

At least the Z is a manual… ?

Wow, MSRP for a Civic with 40k miles! Sad indeed, but I certainly can't blame you for making this choice.

It’s more than I paid 4 years ago. I’m in shock. I know things are way inflated, but I was willing to take $18k a year ago for it in a trade. That was my bottom dollar though I was gunning for $20k… and they offered me $21k and I walked on the offer because of issues with the car I was looking at.

Still… I can’t believe it. I know inflation may well push prices higher for a long time… possibly permanently to an extent, but that offer to me is batshit crazy. It’s not a year or two old but 4. I did get essentially the first 2018 that arrived in the lot, passing up piles of 2017s to wait for an ‘18 to arrive. That may have been a very good decision.

I'm not selling but for shits and giggles I checked out KBB for the current trade in value of my '17 EX-L ...

Considering I paid $23,000 4.5 years ago, this is nuts.

Yeah. If I wasn’t so inundated with cars I barely ever drive… did long commutes or was very emotionally connected with the car, I’d keep it. Given 3 other vehicles (one arguably more fun, albeit overly fast in some situations), short drives and me kind of ready to move on to something else, it’s time.

Well, it’s done. I got my check and the lady is driving me home. I’ll miss the car… it was great but, for it, it was time. And that money was bonkers good.

What's your mileage on it? And i had thought that KBB didn't really keep up with what has been offered.

It's very low mileage (26,000+). My commute is only 9 miles.

God I have so many parts in a parts bin to sell. I’m a parts hoarder. I can’t throw them away… and have parts for cars I owned 20 years ago. These though? I should probably get rid of them.

I really feel the price of used cars will continue to rise until the dealers start getting a good supply of new ones.

I think the price may stay a bit higher from here on out from both inflation and because it’s been seen the market can bear it.

I don’t have any plans of getting another car until ‘23 at the earliest unless it’s some cheap old project. I don’t have the time and between the desire to do some transmission work, sound deadening and more performance tweaks to the Z to say nothing of keeping the old truck and the Odyssey running well… I doubt I’ll get anything else. The Civic made me go a month or more at a time without driving the Z at times as it was great but a bit of an attention hog. Now I wont be able to ignore my other toys.
