I think I'd heard this before but this kid has proved it.

Yeah I bought a pack of Faraday box and pouches on Amazon as a precaution. Luckily I’m in a garage when I’m at home.

Take it from someone who works in cybsec. A 10 year old could put an rfid repeater/relay together with a week or two's lunch money.

I legitimately f'n hate that these cars don't have physical keys with an encrypted fob.

Both of my fobs are stored in faraday pouches inside of a faraday box when home and when I drive to work, the fob I have on me goes in to a faraday pouch before I get off the highway.

What's the point of a Faraday box if they're copying the signal when you press it?
If I need to park on the street at my own home, or my garage door is open, it’ll prevent anyone from being able to hack my fob from outside. Otherwise, yeah… it doesn’t help in the situation where I’m out and about and someone intercepts the signal as I’m locking the door.

I'm assuming they're hacking your remote when you actually use your remote. There's no signal coming out of the remote otherwise.

I’m not sure if the article that the OP posted explicitly states it, but I think I read on another thread that your key fob can be hacked even when you are not actively using it, so in that case a faraday box would be handy.

@RTC975 - what’s your procedure for locking your doors while your fob is in your Faraday pouch? Do you lock the doors manually from the interior before closing the doors? Obviously besides using the physical key.

I get my laptop bag out of the back seat and then lock the doors and make sure they're locked. It take's under 10 seconds to lock the doors, shut it and check its shut & locked.

Anyone have a decent quality place/manufacturer to get a faraday box/bag for keys? Most stuff online is either Chinese-made stuff of questionable quality on Amazon or like full pro doomsday prepper mega serious backyard bunker type ish...

pouch:

box:

that would work fine.

Samfolk Faraday Box with Faraday... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FX6Q4H3?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

this is what I got and I tested it out and it seems to keep my fob from opening doors, and starting car from sitting inside the car.
