In a big development today, Honda announced that the next gen sedan and hatch will be released in the 2022 model year.

In other news, sadly the Coupe is being discontinued.

So, does this gives us the record for the most topics on the same news story? ;)

Well here's my theory. Honda is discontinuing the coupe. I think just having one Si model would be a mistake. So I think we'll see an Si sedan and an Si hatch.

Then, I'm pretty sure Honda knows they need to up the Si's power compared to the 10th gen and something like 220-230 hp sounds about right.

I can't imagine an Si without a manual but I wouldn't be shocked if there's an auto (non-CVT) option.

My next car would definitely be an Si hatch if Honda releases one.

Current gen Si already have them. So I don't see why they wouldn't put it on next gen. Gonna be a killer hatch if so. With a tune and few bolt ons these would be pushing 300 hp.

They can walk over to the Acura shelf and use the DCT they used on their version of the last gen K-motor from an Si. They didn’t mate it with the V6 though so it might not be much more robust than a CVT.

I could see honda bumping standard 1.5T power up to 178-180... possibly no 2.0NA option anymore (just look at the CRV for that possibility). Bump the Si up to 220-230. That easily allows them to stay top of the compact class for performance on the lower trims while providing some meaningful gains to the Si which has been long overdue.

Wonder if they'll drop the sport and replace it with the Si moniker and subsequent upgrades that go with it.

Pseudo sport models are all the rage... for the hyundai N, you have the N-Line... all the show, none of the go.... Kia has the GT-Line.... same situation.... so it benefits Honda to offer a Sport trim that looks like an Si, with basically none of the major upgrades for those that want the look, but maybe can't afford the extra few thousand.

Honda also announced stopping the manual for the accord a few months ago. I think they may have a couple models with the manual. Maybe the SI and one Hatchback trim is the best we could hope for.
