I know we have overlays, but i find the JDM honda part pretty expensive. If i were to go with Overlays what is the downside to doing overlays vs just getting JDM yellow fog lights?

Heres a cheaper alternative I haven't seen anyone rocking yet, White or Amber.

The downside with an overlay is simply you don't get as many cool points. Only Type R owners will be able to spot the difference. I like the Honda Access Yellow fogs, 200 bucks each is a reasonable price to pay I feel. I recommend them for the cool JDM factor but to each their own. At the end of the day its a yellow light vs a white light.

Side note...I was tempted to track down a set of blue CRZ fog lights, then you'd have some really rare fog lights. I can't even find a picture of them on the internet anymore.

Film : downside - don't look as good; upside - saved $400

Jdm Honda Access fogs : upside - looks better and I believe it's glass and not plastic; downside - expensive (but good resale used so that's a plus)

I have Morimoto xB LED fogs with my own overlays. $140 and they are pretty good in the performance factor and looks.

I believe the biggest downside to the film overlays is heat retention. I know these are all LED nowadays but I think even the LEDs heat up a bit with extended use.

I think some overlays caused issues on my previous platform with extended fog light use (like if they were on for hours and hours over time). The bulbs would overheat or something as the film isn't breathable.

Yet, strangely, guys with PPF on the headlights never seem to have a problem ? even I'm getting the the headlights covered with PPF.

Still, with how sparingly most use the fogs, I'd go with overlays and save the 400 bucks.

Recently put JDMs on my hatch, look cool, not sure worth the $400+. With that said, at the moment, I don’t regret the decision.

If you don’t want to pay that much, the overlays are good, and also provide a level of protection. I actually used clear on my JDM set.

Morimoto XBs are also a good alternative from what I’ve seen. Main reason I went with the JDM set over those, is because when not lit up, the morimoto have a blacked out look, and I like the yellow/amber during daylight hours.

side note... I have the regular hatch, and my JDM set came with the conversion code (the cable needed for FK8 swap) which I didn’t need. It’s an OEM part, if you needed that, maybe we can work something out.

Big upside to the film is the protection it gives the lens. If you go OEM yellow fogs then you'll wanna put some protection film on there anyway so you might as well just use yellow film on your originals. If you ever get sick of the look then you can just peel it off anyway. :)

I have a set of the JDM's and also recently bought a set of yellow Diode Dynamics LED foglights.....These things are NO JOKE and put out way more light than the JDMs do....Now, to be fair, the look while off is different but still a pretty good deal and an alternative to the JDM....Just note, you will however need the JDM adapter with the DD LED's.....so figure that into the cost as well.....

I stuck with JDM Honda Access to stay OEM. I did the film overlay on my old Fit. Cheaper but I do prefer the look of the Honda Access vs complete yellow of film.

I retrofitted some random 3.5 inch led yellow fogs from a Nissan that had the same mounting points. The lense itself was yellow, no overlay.

I've also retrofitted some projector fog lights which were cool too.

Pros for Overlays, a lot cheaper, you can pick your color, protects original light a little bit. Cheaper than JDM ones
Cons, dulls the natural light output a bit, my yellow faded some.
I had overlay for years but eventually went with JDM Raybrig fogs in clear. Light output is matched to headlight at 6200K looks stunning even When not in use
Factory fogs will get the job done but I think JDM yellow and Raybrig looks amazing even when not in use
check out Morimoto or some of the other alternatives others recommended
