So I hear all the time the clutch is weak, causes slipping on modded
motors. I too found my clutch slipping on my modestly modded motor
hence my upgrade to a stronger clutch AND flywheel. Problem solved.
But, was it really a weak clutch or was it simply a weak pressure plate?

Well the clutch itself is actually very light and tiny. The springs that dampen the hard shock is in the flywheel rather than the clutch disc itself. The flywheel is a freakin 52 pound anchor, itā€™s nuts.

iā€™d say itā€™s the entire clutch assembly that was not meant to take the huge torque gain that a ā€œmodest tuneā€ adds from adding more boost.

Stock power the clutch is absolutely fine, even when driven hard daily.

A modest tune on an older NA civic wouldnā€™t see nearly as large of a jump in power figures as the turbo models. They made huge sacrifices to keep the 10th gen Si in the affordable $25k range and keep it comfortable for daily driving as a commuter.

Honda also said they had to cap the power where it was or the thing would be in the shop too often. If you want to take advantage of the ease of power gains, then youā€™re gonna be replacing shit.

Pretty sure the sprung hub of which you speak is the clutch disk hub, not the flywheel. I didnā€˜t know the flywheel is 52lbs! šŸ¤Æ

There are no springs on the clutch disc. I have one in a box in my storage unit.

The portion circled in red is the sprung hub on the clutch disk that absorbs driveline shock.

We must be talking about different things, then.

No, weā€™re talking about the same thing. But, that is not a stock clutch. That is an aftermarket assembly with a single mass flywheel and sprung clutch disc.

šŸ‘†šŸ¼From HondaPartsNow.com. Wow, I had no idea our OEM clutch was not sprung. Thanks for the knowledge! I wonder why they would do that.

Also, HPN.com says the OEM flywheel is 25lbs. šŸ¤·šŸ¼ Can I ask where you got the 52lb number from?https://www.hondapartsnow.com/genuine/honda~flywheel~22100-5cd-003.html
