You should stick with 0w-20...pick a good oil like those signature amsoil, motul or pennzoil platinumSo in my case I'm fine using 0-20w weight all season because I don't track my R I just daily drive it.
Is this about a Civic or a 911? Advertised weights of oil are pretty non-descript. If you describe in more details we can understand you. What brand and advertised weight of oil? What PSI boost are you running, using what tuner software, how much knock control, what intercooler, how many miles in car etc etc ? What track event? What oil change intervals or methods? (these are variables)What happens if you use 0W-20 on a Hot track day? Engine catches fire? water-Thin synthetic oil evaporates and engine seizes? from the owner manual and on the oil cap it clearly shows 0W-20. I have done plenty of very hard track days in extremely hot CA weather on my 911 using a recommended oil that dealership service shop uses. Never ever had any issues. Honda is a reliable vehicle what us going to happen? has anyone ever experienced issues with factory recommended oil on track?
I’m not sure that is true. Oil weight is tied directly to efficiency. With auto start/stop, direct injection and even Amsoil saying they are working on 0w-8 oil, all arrows point to efficiency and not durability and longevity. However, it is assuring to see oil analysis results that look good with 0w-20 oil.My feeling is, Honda designed this engine to run on 0-20w. Use any other weight at your own risk, long term.
It’s rated for other oils too in Japan and South Africa. 0w20 is only recommended because it helps them achieve fuel economy numbers for the EPA and it even says that in the manual. Hell, they even give you a handy chart for choosing your oil weight. My feeling is, Honda designed this engine to run on 0-20w. Use any other weight at your own risk, long term.
This is interesting. I might switch to 5W30 next change. I'm using Castrol 0w20 Magnatec right now. I use Castrol because that is what the shop I work at uses and its available and cheap at my employee price. I also think Castrol is good oil. It’s rated for other oils too in Japan and South Africa. 0w20 is only recommended because it helps them achieve fuel economy numbers for the EPA and it even says that in the manual. Manual from South Africa (cause most of us cant read Japanese):
