Anyone get a chance to check out this video review on a 2021 type r on YouTube yet? Interesting thing is the 2021 type r she is reviewing is badge number 36068, mine badge number is..38268, I got my 2020 ctr about a month ago... I guess it’s considered an 2021/2020 ? Glad i saved that 2k savings..

Due to pandemic some 2020's were released as 2021's so i'm not surprised.

Its been documented that the number plates, while unique, aren’t tied directly to numbers of CTRs produced, or even year. So it’s conceivable that ther was simply an old number lying in the bin the day this one was made...

Yeah I always thought it was somewhat random like 20,000 - 30,000 any number in between could be used not necessarily in numerical order???

The badge numbers will trend upward, but not be in numerical order. In short, Honda makes batches of badges in numerical order and places them in a parts bin. A random part is chosen from that bin to be placed on the car. When the parts bin gets low, another batch is ordered. This creates the effect that the numbers trend upward (and thus correlate), but aren't entirely predictable. Back a year ago, I was able to build a decision tree that could accurately predict model year based off of badge number 90+% of the time and be within 1 model year 100% of the time. Granted at the time no 2020 cars had been out yet (so my dataset consisted of 2017, 18, and 19 badge numbers).

I wonder if they held out any numbers, like 00069, or 10101 or such. Probably not...

Bought my 2021 RR CTR IN AUG 21. my number is 46542. I understand at the end of production honda will have made 47k type r's and 1k LE's worldwide 2017-2021. Anyone know differently?

I've only heard speculation and assumptions, nothing official from Honda.

I’m going to bet Sarah misspoke - there were only about 3000-3500 2020s made (if the registry is even roughly correct) and that production number is way low to be on a 2021, even with the way they did batches. I’d bet Sarah was one of the last to get their hands on a press car and so just called it a 2021 to make the video sound more timely. Keep an eye out on other reviews - I bet this car will pop up again if you dig around. See what year other reviewers give it.

This is the highest number I've seen so far (not my pic).
