Insurance Topic how does it look to insure a type R? Geico doesn't have Type R as a quote?

Geico doesn't have the Honda Civic Type R as a quote? They only have the Si

I just need to know how expensive is it to put this on a full coverage policy with a $1000 or $500 deductible for you guys?

being that this is essentially a Honda Civic with some umph it shouldn't be that bad right?

I'm at around 1400/yr with a 250 deductible for full coverage. But I'm through State Farm. Insurance rates will vary from company to company but also location to location as well. Note that when I first got the car the cost was around 1600/yr.

I live in NYC so I currently switched to Progressive paying 1882 for 6 months.
I'm 24 & had my license for 5 years.

My original with Geico when I bought my R was close to 3k for 6 months.

I'm on Geico full coverage with $500 deductible, and paying around $940 for six months. 34 year old in NYC area, been driving for 18 years. Insurance card shows 2017 Honda Civic with its actual VIN number, but no mention of Type R anywhere.

Might switch to esurance since they also cover aftermarket parts.

I had gieco. Just put in your vin instead of the model. I believe it comes up as a hatch

It appears to be in the most expensive risk category for insurers. Expect high rates. It will be in line with its competitors though. Likely similar to the STI, Mustang GT, etc.
For comparison’s sake, I’m paying an extra $230 for 6 months coverage over what I was paying for an NC Miata and a Camry combined before. We now pay $1100/6 months for full coverage on a 2014 CX-5 and the Type R. I have a very low $100 deductible though. No one in my household has any accidents or tickets on their record.

Some peoples limits might be be different. Geico wanted like $1500 with me for the Type R. I called when I got a quote, and they ran it as a Civic Type R when I got them the VIN. I went with insurance through Costco. I pay WAY less than I did with Geico despite my driving history.

31 M
3 Accidents on record since 2014
2 Claims paid out
0 tickets

I currently pay $8XX for 6 months for the Civic with a $500 deductible.

I've seen different folks say, in different venues, that it's just a hatch to insurance companies.

USAA doesn't differentiate it from a regular Civic. I'm 26 and I think it's like $2400 year round

My agent says it's just a Civic hatchback - your costs shouldn't change. Your age/record and location are the biggest Influencers.

Auto Owners Insurance: $860/year for full coverage. Comprehensive only for 6 months in storage is ~$106.

My GEICO policy sees the car as a Honda Civic hatchback. Pay 285.00 every 6 months. 1000 deductible on collision.

Interesting yours is a 2020 and they still put it as a hatch??? I know they had issues at first in 2017 finding the cars but in 2020 they should have fixed that. mine was put in correctly as a type R and I have gieco. Another interesting thing is my Si was higher insurance then the R . Maybe the fact yall have them in as hatches changes something? cause I dont pay anywhere near what some of you are paying.

You all are not comparing apples to apples.

Age, sex, driving history, annual miles, coverage amounts, deductible, location all impact your costs. Get a quote before you buy the car. Shop around for different insurance if you want. You will get different prices.
