How Tuning Affects your Warranty?

Prior to tuning, what was your take on how tuning affects your warranty?

  • They won’t know it was tuned if I reflash back to stock and therefore will not affect my warranty.

  • Tuning will only affect my warranty if it is the cause of the defect in question.

  • Reflashing is useless. Dealers can see it was tuned &will use it to deny nearly any claim they want.

  • I don't really care to know how tuning affects my warranty and am willing to accept its risks.

even if your car is in for a simple oil change, the first thing they do is hook it up to the computer
When I worked at a dealership this was certainly not the case. We didn't have time to dig around and find people's dirty laundry.

HOWEVER

It is safe to assume that they are not idiots and can tell if a car has been tuned, so I'm with you there. Most of US could tell by simply driving in a parking lot. The fact of the matter is that they get paid to fix your car if your car breaks, so they will likely approve a warranty claim if they can get away with it (from my experience).
