One of my biggest gripes about my current ride (2007 GTI) is that it's difficult to get to anything, not to mention all the specialized bits and sockets you need. I did lowering springs without much headache on my old 2015 Mazda 3 but struggled to get the sway bar switched on my GTI.

How easy do you find the Si to work on, as far as mods and maintenance go?

I would say if you are experienced with VW's, than the Si will be a breeze as compared. Also you will find less things break if you don't abuse it. I say this coming from owning a few VW's in the mid to late 80's

I can only report on really basic stuff. (Intercooler, intake, some exterior mods) but it hasnt been tough. A plastic clip removal tool will save you so much time.
