Prior to installing the PRL Intake for our 2017 Civic Si, we wanted to obtain baseline values to give a scientific back to back comparison. This intake is both configurable for street and race applications and comes with 2 maf housings to do so. The street housing should require no changes to afm calibration, however the race will need further adjustments to work properly. Current state of the vehicle was stock aside from the addition of a Hondata Flash Pro, GM Flex Fuel Sensor, and a reflashed ecu running our OTS +6psi Ethanol basemap.

As delivered the car baselined on our dynapack at ~262hp ~285tq with our OTS +6psi Ethanol basemap. Once the base numbers were in, the next step was to install the intake and retest accordlindy. Install went smoothly as advertised, no other modifications needed. Install time was less than a hour.

A brief summary of dyno testing vitals and figures are all listed below. Note that between each test, a cool down was conducted for consistency.

Vitals for all runs are as follows (averages of 3 points of data except MAP)

  • IAT#1 - 92degF,

  • IAT#2 - 80degF,

  • ECT - 197degF,

  • K.Control - 55%,

  • Ethanol Content - 82%

  • MAP - ~233kpa post spool, ~255kpa peak boost, ~244kpa @ redline

Power figures are as follows. Please see attached dyno plots which show stock vs street and stock vs race:

~262hp, ~285tq - Stock Intake System /// blue dyno plot

~278hp, ~290tq - PRL Intake (Street MAF) /// green dyno plot

~281hp, ~295tq - PRL Intake (Race MAF) /// magenta dyno plot

Post install driving felt the same as stock besides the extra power gained. You can also clearly hear the turbo spool which for most is a added driving experience of owning a turbocharged vehicle.

In the next software release, base calibrations will be provided for both maf housings.

Just confirming: this is the Cobra CAI that we're discussing? Would be curious to see if there are any gains to be had, aside from sound, from running the Short Ram version.

Wow @PRL Motorsports pretty much nailed this intake down perfectly

@Hondata_Support Are these numbers on the stock clutch? If not, which tune would be the maximum for stock clutch?

I’m going to assume it’s the Cobra cold air intake. There are gains with their short ram, but they will (and myself) recommend the cold air intake as you will get the best gains and consistent cold air.

Thanks for such a great review!! And Yes, this is the Cobra cold air intake they were testing and tuning.

Honadata, what is the power difference between the street and race MAF' s at 6500rpm? It looks like there is a significant difference. Did you see more boost there?

No problem. Yes same boost at 6500 rpm on all 3 intakes.

Way to go @PRL Motorsports , you nailed the MAF housing and the flow. Not an intake on the market like this one and that's a fact.

We posted similar gains on our DynoJet months ago. Also other tuners using other interfaces have also shared about the similar results! These numbers are actually lower than what others have seen. The important thing to note here is that there is a baseline dyno, so the gains are still valid gains. It is great to have Hondata share this information as they (Hondata) have shared their results on numerous other intake systems on the market. Also to note, Hondata bought these intakes and there was no free handout to them. Hondata also bought our front mount, DP, and Front pipe for their car.

This is great news because Hondata users will now be able to upload a tuned map for our intakes!
