I hope that there are enough people on this site that will FULLY remember the POS dealers that are attempting to gouge the beegeebers out of their customers. This temporary condition will end in terms of the chip shortage and I hope that some of the Florida dealerships like Classic Honda in Orlando suck big goose eggs when this opportunistic situation abates. I understand supply/demand but these unconscionable a..holes are loading people into boats that many cannot afford and couldn't give a tinker's damn if they ruin some sucker's credit rating for at least 7 years. They should be ashamed of themselves and hopefully there are enough intelligent buyers that will boycott dealers who are price gouging like vendors who price gouge after a catastrophic weather event.

This has been going on wrt the CTR since it was introduced. Simple, just don’t buy one or any car (boats? What are we talking about here...) from those dealers. Its on the buyer, including assumption of debt for things we don’t need.

Unfortunately, greed is a part of the human condition, obviously to varying degrees among different people. But in properly functioning free market capitalism, there is a counterbalance, much like how there is when Wall Street banks are reckless and they should fail (oh wait, that didn't happen, because you know, political connections and corporatism led to bailouts and big bonuses). If the remaining CTRs won't sell, the dealers will be forced to lower the prices. If every CTR was sold at MSRP, there might be none left at this point or every one of them may be snatched up before they even hit the lot. So in a way, this "price discovery" takes care of and mitigates potential "shortages". The fact that it still sells at a higher price means the market can bear it. Obviously I don't like it either, but that's the reality of the situation.

People are paying the $5 to $10k mark up here in Northern California… so if people are paying, why lower. They don’t sit for that long too. 1-2 weeks at most.

Been seeing CTRs with $10k mark-up disappearing left and right over the last 2 weeks. Can't believe people are paying that much but that's what FOMO does to people.

Just in case anyone in SoCal is looking, Carson Honda has 3 CTR's with a $5k markup, call Leslie at 323-388-1571. I ended purchasing something else but probably would have negotiated the ADM on one of these. They also have a LE, but I am not sure how much they are asking for that one.

NOTE: I bought my own white TypeR from here in 2019. It cost me $42k ($6k options package).

While these are sticker prices, no one pays that walking out the door.

Howdy!
Anyone regardless of price paid have a plan through insurance company that considers replacement cost based on market value (that includes ADM best deal available) vs. KBB or NADA book value?

For example, my 2019 CTR bought for $36.2k in Oct of 2019 (now w/13k miles) might be valued at $32k-36k depending on book source in the unlikely chance it was totaled (tourist drivers in FL have me worried).

I could sell it today stock (without several thousands in mods) for about $40k to Carmax/Carvana. It’d cost $42k-$45k to replace with similar 2019, and upper $40k for a 2021, can’t speculate on 2022 that might make me barf once revealed.

State Farm (who I’ve had since 1980) doesn’t consider market pricing, just book.

I’d pay extra for a ‘warm-fuzzy’ rider policy to assure replacement cost but it’s not available.

Note: GAP insurance won’t help as it covers difference between loan payoff and book value and I only owe $20-something-K. GAP does help if your loan balance exceeds car value (aka upside-down).

We could call this actual replacement cost policy rider… Car Replacement Actual Purchase Price Economic E-surance (CRAPPEE).

Sorry if slightly off topic but I’m pretty sure this is of some concern to prospective buyers and existing owners too.

I went there last week. Looked at the sticker prices on all of their CTRs and walked right out.

Anyone considering paying over 60 grand for a Type R (LE, regular, otherwise) needs to take a deep breath and walk away lol
