If you're planning on getting one, the sooner the better. Folks like me are driving the crap outta their cars, and any examples you find will be thoroughly trashed by the time you start your hunt.

On another note, you will get the opportunity to wrench on it with your son. CV joints, compliance bushings, tie rod ends, heck the whole front suspension will likely need to be replaced, and that's before getting under the hood and in the transmission.

🫡 To you and your future project

I think this is a place where people who love their cars come to talk/vent about them, but are also realistic about what they are/aren’t (most of us at least). You can’t blame us for thinking that buying parts for a car you don’t yet posses is intuitively backwards from conventional knowledge. But maybe it’s a form of manifesting it into reality. I do hope you get the Si you want. As they are great little cars.

make sure you place them properly and get them level. i used some 1 inch wide scotch tape to position mine. the HFP parts are gonna get discontinued (if not already discontinued) soon enough and they will only go up in price.

Unfortunately, I made the mistake of thinking that this was a enthusiast forum.
Don't get me wrong, I think your plans for you and your son are really cool, but I also think the enthusiast mindset is what's shown in the responses you're receiving. If you were looking for a fan forum, for sure, the response you're getting wouldn't really feel right. But given the fact that everyone on the forum is here because of a car that they own, drive, and mod actively, the general user is going to be confused by the reverse of that.

The other side of that is that as enthusiasts, the guys here know exactly how these cars get driven and cared for (or not, more often). The sentiment of "the sooner the better" purely comes from the concern that these cars are not being made anymore, and every year that passes is another year of potential abuse for the car to suffer. In that sense, they're just trying to look out for you from the reliability perspective.

At the end of the day, nobody can ever tell you where to invest your money, time, or effort. Like I said, I think what you're doing is really cool, for both you and your son. He's gonna learn a lot, and learn how to be an enthusiastic and (hopefully) responsible car owner, as well as having that experience with you for life. Nobody here would every try and knock that fact  I wish you the best

I'm as nice a guy as you'll find on this forum but I also tell it like it is (in a nice way).

The OP can do what he wants. But I don't think it's cool when a new member comes here and when others offer their opinion, said new member both knocks the forum and individual members here. Forums are about discussions, not "yes" men.

It's like when guys with a 2.0 base model post about wanting to turbocharge their engine and swap out the CVT to a manual. I know to them it sounds like a great idea. But we all know it makes little sense when they can just trade for an Si. Does that mean we're not enthusiasts because we poo poo their idea?

Of course my background is in administering forum communities so there's that. What do I know.... lol

I’ll be building a 10th generation Si with my son soon and we’re going to use a lot of HFP styling on it. I went ahead and bought the emblems first because from what I understand the rear exterior emblem is the most rare out of the HFP parts. I really like the way that this car accelerates and handles, and the 6 speed manual is fun to drive.
