Engine coolant leak, mechanic said he was unable to find the leak and deferred me to a place that has a more “sophisticated” system. Poured coolant about 4 times this year, more in the summer than

1. should I just pour a sealant and take a risk?

2. if I do go to a shop and find a leak, what could be the cost?

3. Given the cost, is it worth the fix or should I buy a new (used) car?

4. another option he gave was to drive till it smoked and then throw away?

Current mileage 130K

Could be as simple as a bad radiator cap; or as bad as a blown head gasket. Take it somewhere and have it diagnosed. Depending on condition of rest of the vehicle, spending $1,500 to fix (likely much less) is a no-brainer.
