i tried to paint my tan trim piece with plastidip but it kept coming out in a weird pattern (texture) and i wanted to keep the OEM look. finally after about 3 coats i gave up. i didn't want to paint it because i wanted to keep the button illumination....so i just used a Permanent Marker and colored it in. lol. I'm telling you, for such an obscure piece, you'd never know unless you shine a flashlight directly upwards and could tell.

just wanted to throw out another option instead of using paint.

Did my mod today. Well worth it. Took more time to figure how to program it to my garage door opener with "Intellicode" than to install it.

What you mean by intellicode? I have one garage I cant pair at the moment. But I suspect it's another standard. The opener is from 2003. Not sure about frequence

I have a Genie 1028 with Intellicode remote. What I did after trying to figure it out for an hour, and based on instructions, was to hold garage remote near the Homelink. Hold the garage remote button down for around 10 seconds, then press on the desired Homelink button. Afterwards, you press the learn button on the actual unit to program the Homelink.

I didnt do the first step initally and the Homelink could not be programmed.

What mirror did you buy? Was it plug and play?
If you don't need a compass (who really does these days?), you can get a used Gentex 313 on eBay for $20~30 shipped. It provides 3 Homelink buttons and an autodim function. It's not plug and play, but wiring is pretty straight forward.

My 453 didn’t have the compass.
