Ay that's awesome man, glad you are putting your health before anything. As for car recommendations I also recommend the GTI with DST. I think it's a very practical car, comfortable, nice interior, and very spacious.

Actually trying to look at a MK7 GTI. I gotta see what it's like.

Also, how much do the tax savings matter when trading in?

Dealer A I would be selling the car outright to - they would just give me a check and I would pay off the loan and keep the rest. Dealer B I would trade it in at for the same value (supposedly) and they would handle paying it off versus me having to do it.

I talked to dealer A this morning, told them dealer B would give me more, and dealer A said they would meet that offer. If that's the case, I would think a flat check always beats the trade in, right?

I'd look for a 2005-2009 Subaru Legacy GT Wagon (GTWaggin'). We will look at a Kia Soul when we need a car for our kids to share.

Thanks TIm - I'm sure there's others who did the same, but I think I strugged the most because I overthought things LOL

Tested a LOT of cars the last couple of days. Came up with a scoring system and that Mazda 3 GT hatch is at the top which is the first car I test drove and just had an innate feeling it might be the best fit for me.
* I have a formula that gives extra points based on price (higher the number the more points it adds) as price is a big factor for me

OP said he wants less stress. not more.

The Mazda 3 in GT trim is amazingly nice. The only downside is the dramatic power difference between that and the R. But the 3 would be a very nice place to be in.

The power difference is definitely noticeable, but it’s not too bad. It’s 184 hp, which is still a fair amount. I think the 0-60 is like low 7 seconds.

Cool chart, thanks for sharing your opinions. I am curious what put the Mazda at a 9 in features with the GTI only being a 6.

The GTI I test drove was rather basic compared to the Mazda. The GTI was missing a sunroof, heated seats, safety tech, a decent infotainment, etc. I think this was due to the GTI trim I tested. There aren’t many DSG CPO ones in my area it seems around my price range.

I narrowed it down to 3 vehicles. Here's a chart I made that showcases what I liked/wasn't sure about/didn't like about my favorite vehicles I test drove. But if I'm gonna be honest the Mazda is probably gonna end up winning.

Your chart says it all... The Mazda GT seems to fit your needs the best imho. Having to lease and drop 4k down on a lease is prob not the best financial move for you and your peace of mind. The Acura has too many miles for me personally if your looking at owning this next vehicle for several plus years, and the fuel economy doesn't help cutting costs for you as well, lastly the need for cargo space if you get a dog(or moving stuff),not to mention the cost of it as well. Those are pretty big negatives that hold a good bit of weight imho comparing them to the Mazda.

Good luck with your choice tho...only you really know what feels the best for YOU alone and no one else, or what any of us here have to say about it.

Yup, I'm steering in the direction of the Mazda as well. I might ask for one more test drive of it and take it on some rougher roads and the highway and pay attention to the suspension and NVH in general. But at the same time, I've taken about 50 minutes of test drives of it so far, and I didn't see anything wrong in those. And yeah, dropping several Gs on a lease is something that sounds like a bad move (unless I kept the vehicle after the lease).
