I have recently discovered a hole in the center console tray. On the side wall above the USB outlet, between the shifter and cup holder. Can anyone tell me what goes in there? Or what is for?

Might be for the shifter override, my friend had a 2016 Subaru Forrester that got stuck in park due to a recall issue and after some research I found out that there's a small hole under a tiny cover by the shifter that you can stick a flat head screw driver in and push down slightly to be able to shift out of park.

You stick the physical key from the fob into it and it unlocks the shifter with the car off so it can be moved if the battery is dead/disconnected or the shifter becomes stuck.

Please don't store your masks like that if you're gonna re-use it.

Huh I didn't know there was a shift release for manual cars. Thanks.

Lol it's garbage, I just need to clean out the car.

It's not for manual cars. They probably don't want to make a second version of the console just to accomodate autos so they use the same one in both manual and auto.

My car had a cap in a baggy when I bought it. I installed it myself

That's interesting, I hadn't seen a USB port mounted down there. That'd be a candidate for a drink spillage with my cup holder placement. My USB port is at the rear wall of the centre console. I guess you have different cup holders there too then?

I see you are in Europe! OP is in Canada and I'm in the US, so maybe NA cars have a different placement for that USB outlet?

Yup, I don't believe manual cars have any shifter release.

I have a little plastic plug there also and was pretty sure it served as a bump stop for the sliding cup holder.

I have this USB port too
