Agree. Looks like the rack legs are still all up. Wonder if the car was loaded too far forward or improperly. Hard to say from the pics though.
Makes you cringe though whenever you see any kind of picture like this.

Thought I read somewhere recently that they may have changed the lift points on the 2020?
Maybe the shop pulled up a 17ā€™-19ā€˜ service manual or something for the info?
If so of course it was the lifts fault Right lol..
This sucks though wish him the best.

This is nuts. Iā€™m not sure how I wouldā€™ve reacted to this.

Holy shit. Just an oil and trans fluid change.. you would think just another day. That's crazy, but also really scary at the fact that someone could have been standing under that car.

Good that nobody was hurt, imagine being under that when it happened.
There will be a lengthy expertise to determine the cause: improper maintenance/operation of the jack stand...
Owner should be refunded full car price through insurance. It's a new car there's nothing to be "worked out". That car likely has structural damage(bent frame) falling like that. It will never drive straight.

That shop would now own the car and be buying me a new replacement.

Lawyer up.
Realistically the shop would be on the hook for the carā€™s wroth, which most likely would be through their insurance (if they have some). Anything extra would just be the shop being nice. Hopefully the OP isnā€™t upsideown on their loan, and if they are they have gap insurance.

I donā€™t know what yā€™all are looking at. The arms on the right look noticeably higher than the left.

i think its the angle of the photo if you look at the arms they are both right above the manufacture logo in the same spot

But not sure if its mechanic or human error, the insurance company will decide on that.
I just hope the car owner gets treated right.

Man in the early 90ā€™s I worked at Sears when I was in HS and at least twice they had cars fall off the lift. Each time was from people not putting it on right.

How do they get it down? And what sort of additional damage did that cause?

The car probably slid off the 2 wood blocks while being lifted up. I see two wood blocks sitting on the floor.
