Hi guys. Im looking to purchase some PTP blankets and heat shielding stuff to lower the temps on the engine bay, but I don’t know what to get. im not really knowledgeable about the pros and cons of putting one. Here is my current set up:

stock turbo, HKS downpipe (no heat shield), hks front pipe with flex joint, blitz nurspec full exhaust. Will post pictures for reference.

so far from what I read in the forums that putting in some turbo blanket might cause the oil in the turbo to overheat. I also read that putting some blanket over the downpipe will transfer the heat to the front pipe and will radiate heat from there and possibly soak into the oil pan.

I hope someone could give me advice on what and what not to purchase.

On my setup, I have a PTP turbo blanket & the stock turbo heatshield installed. The downpipe has a high flow cat and is ceramic coated. It has no extra insulation. The front pipe has an exhaust wrap to keep heat in the pipe.

I tied the PTP DP elbow blanket but removed it after a week. It doesn't allow reinstallation of the stock turbo heatshield which leaves the wastegate arm and part of the turbo exposed. That exposed section emits too much heat for my liking.

I've been using a turbo blanket on my other car for 8 years and the turbo is still working perfectly.

Does the HKS downpipe not let you keep the OEM heatshield? Because if so you should put it on. If not I would use DEI exhaust wrap on the downpipe.

I also use a PTP turbo wrap and have wrapped the front pipe and put a little additional reflective material/insulation between the front pipe and where it passes through near the oil pan.

No issues after tracking the car for two seasons now (intermediate level only).
Also agree with Vincent - get the heat shield back on if you can. I personally think every bit helps.

Does the downpipe blanket keep temp in better than heat shield?

okay so ive decided to purchase ptp turbo blanket and downpipe blanket to lower temps down on the engine bay since turbo and dp is so exposed. I read through the forums that having the blankets installed will transfer heat to the front pipe and then will cause heat soak on the oil pan.

one of the solutions i read is to wrap the front pipe with exhaust wrap. but i hear mix opinion on this with regards to corrosion. will thermal barrier installed on the oil pan be enough to avoid heat soak? i dont do track day. i occasionally drive hard. I live and a tropical country so its very humid and hot here.

any tips and suggestion is appreciated.

cerakote is another option if it's available in your area. i had both my downpipe and front pipe coated with it. could possibly combine them if you are truly worried. cost me $75 to have it done for each pipe.
