So towards the end of May, I was driving home with both boys in the back seat in the middle lane of the highway (we were heading home from Thunder Valley Raceway for Streetcar Takeover). The fine gentleman to the left of me decided he wanted to be in my lane, and started coming right on over. I did my best to avoid being slammed into without me hitting anyone else, but unfortunately the rear passenger side of my car made contact with the front driver's side of the guy to my right.

Thankfully he was paying attention to what was happening, and we both kept really good control of our cars. We both pulled over, and of course Captain Asshole who caused the whole thing kept on going.

No mechanical/serious damage, and no bodily injuries either, so it could have been so much worse. In fact, my youngest was asleep in his car seat and slept through the whole thing, haha.

I dropped it off at the body shop last Monday, and picked it up on Friday. They did an amazing job!

Right after it happened:

That sucks that you took the hit for trying to avoid someone else's crap driving. I hope your insurance doesn't punish you for it. At least the car looks great again.

Thankfully, they won't. We do Drivewise with Allstate, and the points we've racked up dropped my deductible down to only $100. Additionally, because of their accident forgiveness, my rates won't go up.

Just out of curiosity, how much does the accident forgiveness cost you? That's an extra-cost rider (or whatever it's called), they don't do that for free if I understand correctly.

Honestly, I have no idea. I didn't even realize we had it until this wreck happened, ha. I just now pulled up our policy on Allstate's website, and don't see anything stating that we're paying extra for it.

Thanks. I'll call my agent about this. We've got a teen about to start driving, and I can see this being a useful policy addition... sigh

You poor soul, haha.

Thankfully my oldest still has six years until I have to worry about him driving!

i beleive the accident forgiveness works the same as having your car 83 endorsed, but on your policy. Meaning that when you buy a Brand New car, you have it automatically 83 endorsed, meaning only OEM factory parts can be used for repair for the first 2 years, after that it is either OEM or aftermarket, no used junk. Accident forgiveness works like that but policy wise. Since you start a new policy for your new car, you will automatically be signed up for accident forgiveness for X time, you may need to pay for it after X time or from the beginning. Each company is different and policies will vary from state to state/province to province. I know that is how mine works (co-operators insurance, Ontario).

Thanks for that. We switched insurers a few years ago and so the car was not new when the current Allstate policy went into effect. I just looked at the Allstate app on my phone and accident forgiveness is not listed. I'm in the USA, so not sure how insurance coverage regulations compare to those used in Canada.

Don't know if this can help you or not,but my son had his own car when he first got his license, gonna cost me a fortune. A defensive driving course and his great grades significantly lowered my costs. Might be worth looking intI if your ins. Co. Offered such stuff.

I'll look into this. Hopefully grades and drivers ed will keep the rate increase to something less than the US GDP. :)
