I have only 28000km or about 17000 mi.
I have been using Amsoil for more than 2 years, I changed to 4000 mi.
I think they are bearings but I am advised not to open
the gearbox and change them because, afterwards, it would be worse.
This is my dilemma !

Iā€™ve been using Amsoil for a year or two... and used it on my last couple Honda/Acuraā€™s w/o issue. Lots of folks use it.

Jumping to consider changing bearings is a pretty big leap though. Whoā€™s spoke to to you about having bad bearings?

He is a mechanic that I trust and he is the one
who advises me not to open the gearbox.
For the moment, it is not yet unpleasant, but,
with time, I fear it will get worse.

Pretty wild. Iā€™ve run Amsoil a long time... lots of folks have without an issue. Have you drained and seen if there was a lot of crud that came out to show wear? I canā€™t remember if we have a magnetic plug or not. Of course... youā€™ll be losing your MTF but for $40 worth of fluid youā€™ll see if thereā€™s a lot of wear products in the fluid.

I'm sure it's not Amsoil. If it's the bearings, I'd be surprised if you find debris, filings....
a few thousands of wear in the balls, that's enough to cause the sound.
I'll probably change the oil and we"ll see.

Thereā€™ll probably be a lot of sludge thatā€™ll be magnetic. Again... canā€™t remember if weā€™ve got a magnetic drain plug or not but thereā€™d be a large around of scuzz clinging to it.

Calm down, what you're hearing is most likely the straighter cut gears of 1st and second gear is all. I noticed it when stock but even more since i put the hasport RMM. You're not hearing it after because of the rest of the noises mixing with it, like tires and engine revving.

THIS IS NORMAL, or it should be. If you have the radio on at a normal level, do you still hear it clearly? If so MAYBE there are issues but almost all gearboxes will whine in first gear and some in second as well. These cars are not that well sound proofed, hence why you're hearing it.

I hope you are right.
I can hear the whistling even with the radio on
at normal level.
It started around 20 000 km and I have the impression
that it is getting louder,
At the last oil change, I asked the Honda mechanic
to listen and he wrote on the invoice that there was whistling.
At the next oil change, I will bring a clean container and ask
him to empty the gearbox into it. In addition, we're going
to lok carefully at the drain plug to look for any metallic traces.
I am not optimistic because I 've had several Hondas and
Acuras and this is the first time I've had a gearbox problem
or even any other problem.
