So I've been noticing lately when I park my car to go into a store and come out the interior smells like gas. I was poking around to take a visual look in the motor bay and decide to dump my only catch can since I did it 5k miles ago. Bam found the problem, almost 1/4 of my @Mishimoto catch can filled with gas and oil.
What the hell ?? Anybody know what can cause this ??????

It got a strong smell of gas and its mounted to the firewall. So that's why I'm guessing I can smell gas from inside the car.

No and doesn't look discolor like the oil in the catch can . I'm guess the "can" is catching it before going back into the motor ?

if the can has a good seal the smell shouldnt escape from it. there was another user on the forum complaining about a gas/oil smell in his interior after installing his catch can. he found out the smell was permeating from the hoses supplied with the can. once he replaced the hoses the smell went away. you might have to dig around to find the thread for more info

Ok, I've dumped that oil catch can before a couple times and had only a little bit of oil in it. Why now its got gas inside ???
Car has only 19k miles , all stock except for exhaust and oil catch can.

I would change the oil and inspect it all. Can't tell much from the little oil on a stick.

Gas vapours will be mixed with oil and it is normal to smell it in the catch can, particularly with a Direct Injection motor. You could always send out used oil for an analysis to the fuel content in your oil, I plan on doing that with my car on the next oil change.

The real issue is that Mishimoto silicone hoses are porous and they emit odours which ends up in the cabin. Replace the hoses with rubber fuel/emmissions hose to reduce the odours emitted. I've got silicone hoses on my other Honda's cooling system and you can always smell coolant in the engine bay as the hoses are porous enough to emit odours.

That looks similar to the pictures I've seen of the contents of other catch cans. This is one reason why you don't want to dump the contents back into the engine. Yeah, it's a mixture of water, oil, and gas that blows by the piston rings.

Edit:
Here is a video of the contents of a catch can. Looks similar to yours.

Yes. I moved from the Bay Area in Cali and now I'm north pan handle of Idaho. So it's a lot colder here
