Dumb question but I’m new to my 2020 type r. This happens in first gear only... I’ve only pushed my car a few times since it’s pretty new and I’ve have what seems like a fuel cut around 6-6.5k. Power drops and the rev limiter kicks in. Just wondering if this is traction control or something else.

Yeah i was getting to that...Different modes allow different thresholds. I was wondering where he experienced this in. If you are on +R mode you get a beep that indicates you to shift when you push it up the rev line

Are you sure traction control isn't cutting you off?
Traction control wouldn't do that and he would be seeing the warning indicator if it kicked in

I have a 2018 and when I ease into full throttle from a stop the car will always pop, I believe in this scenario I'm just barely hitting fuel cut but the digital tach can't keep up.

Edit: just for a little clarification, I'll always hear the "fwuff" near the top of the gear and it's extremely consistent. It's the only time I've heard the exhaust pop and it's totally repeatable with a gradual but firm start in first.

100% what I felt. In +r and didn’t hear the beep but I wasn’t paying attention. Looks like I just need to shift sooner in 1st

Mine never beeps, but I do get red flashing lights in the dash telling me to shift.

Edit: fuel cut off/rev limiter comes shortly after this.

Is the beeping a 2020 only feature?

I don’t think my 2020 beeps. I wonder if it needs to be enabled in settings. I’ve hit fuel cut in 2nd several times because I waited too long to shift to 3rd. The damn thing is tuned so well it pulls hard right up to the cutoff. My GTI always felt awful that high in the rev range. It ran out of breath.

Finally drove the car again today. The 2020 does beep a fraction of a second before fuel cutoff in +R, but with the active sound it is barely audible. I’m guessing it can be heard more easily with it disabled or on an earlier model.
