For Sale: $6 shipped

Map Light Mod Jumper Wire (with two small zip ties). The jumper wire is an OEM wire with OEM terminal. The wire you will get will be blue or yellow.

Info/Instructions
This mod allows the map light to turn on simultaneously with the dome light when the car unlocks or when the unlocked door is opened. Map light will also function independently like normal.

Assuming you know how to remove your map light and dome light (pop off the lenses to reveal two screws to remove each), all you need additonally is a metal clothes hanger to fish the wire.

The trick to fishing the wire through is to start from the map light side and end at the dome light. Do not bend over the tip of the clothes hanger; it makes it too blunt and difficult to fish through the headliner. Once the clothes hanger is through, tape the stripped end of the wire to the hanger and pull the jumper wire through.

Now take the terminal end of the jumper wire and insert it into the open spot in the white OEM connector (the larger one towards the driver side). You will hear a small click which let's you know that the terminal is secured. The orientation of the terminal going into the connector is important. (See pic below). Secure the jumper wire to the factory harness using a small zip tie; I used electrical tape instead.

Now take the stripped end of the jumper wire and zip tie it to the dome light harness. Secure the stripped wire by wedging it in between the ground terminal of the dome light and the plastic housing. You may need a small flathead screwdriver to pry the ground terminal away a little from the plastic in order to insert the stripped end of the jumper wire.

Reinstall the two light units and enjoy.

Finished.

For anyone else: OP does not use a coat hanger because that's what he has on hand. OP uses a coat hanger because there is ALMOST NO SPACE between the roof skin and the headliner. I used mechanic wire, and ended up passing the dome and catching my wire as it was stopped and curling around.

Also, for installing the bare wire end into the dome: lift the ENTIRE metal bulb receptacle up. Don't try just pushing up the bottom part. Lift the entire ground side up, slide the wire in, click the metal tabs back into place on the plastic.

This DIY isn't super hard, but this isn't "30 seconds with a grabber tool" like I thought it'd be.

PS: rip OP and anyone else using bright ass blue white LEDs in their car. My eyes hurt just looking at the video.
Actually, the clothes hanger is the only thing I have to fish wires. Yeah it is tight and the feathery "foam" insulator doesn't help. I tried the first day and gave up realizing my mistake of bending the tip of the fishing wire. It was too blunt to get through straight back to the dome light opening. Plus my wife scolded to run my errands.

On the second day, it took me about 10 minutes to do everything.

If you decide to make more of these, I'd be interested . . .

I’m struggling with this one. The wire is placed, and everything looks correct but I have no map lights. They still function normally when pressed, but they won’t come on with the dome light.

Make sure the stripped end makes contact with the ground prong on the dome light. Also make sure you connect it to the correct prong. Also make sure the dome light is bolted back in.

Got it working! I had it all correct, except for the prong on the dome light. I was using the hot one apparently. That’s what I get for trying to do this without the photos in front of me. Thanks!
