Front license plate relocation - 2020 Civic Hatchback

Hi fellow CivicX enthusiasts,

I will be receiving my 2020 Civic Hatchback sport on Dec 30th.

I prefer not drilling into the front bumper for the front license plate and wondering what my options are to have the front plate mounted on the side near one of the fog lights.

For 2020, the faux grill has the "moustash" plastic trim. So far it seems like I have to drill a hole into the faux grill in order to mount a license plate holder either using bolts or even a tow hook plate.

Does anyone know if the "moustash" gets in the way of the drilled hole or prevents a plate from being mounted?

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

I think you might be able to fit it underneath the accent piece. But either way, if the accent piece is blocking where you want it positioned, you can probably use spacers and a longer bolt to mount the plate over it.

I noticed you have a 2020 Civic Hatchback as well. (and in Toronto too!). Just wanted to confirm with you there is no tow hook on the front of a 2020 Civic Hatch. Correct?

Yup. There is no tow hook cover on the front bumper. I believe the hook is located underneath the car on the passenger side, close to the undertray cover that you remove for oil changes.

I was searching for something for my 2020 Si Sedan. Ran across this website. Says it is for the Type R. but I think it would work on mine. I sent them a message to see what they have to say.

If you were going to relocate the front plate, I’d recommend NOT putting it where it would block the intercooler more than the OEM location.

I mounted mine off to the side but not far enough to block the fog light.

Is it that bad to place it in the middle? I have mine sorta like this image below...

I grabbed the image from sly brackets..

nm.. I just switched it and placed it on the corner (passenger side). It looks nicer that way anyway.. ^_^

I used a universal plate bracket from autozone, and I spaced it away from the grill using leftover spacers from a tv wall mount kit. Here’s how it looks from behind:

There are various plate brackets on autozone. Can you verify which model it is? I would like to install a plate at a similar location like yours

Bump — I would also like to relocate at a minimal cost similar to this relocate — looks good — can I install directly onto the bumper garnish? Or do I need something more secure to mount it to? I really don’t like the Perrin method where I have to put a 1” hole in my garnish

I did something similar. Bought a universal plate mount kit and some U brackets. Attached it to the passenger side bumper vent with some 1/4-20 machine screws and fender washers. Optional plastic cover was also installed:

@Chilidog sorry for the late reply but this is the plate bracket I used. But I only used 3 of the screws and the plastic bushings from a TV mount kit.

Unsure if this will work for 2020+ models?
