2020 grille doesn't fix it unfortunately. It still leaves gaps.

the bumper needs to be reinforced.
Damn, thought that will give it a little bit of fix though. How I wish it was attached with a locking clip or a screw like the previous generations.

2020 grill is a single piece up top, without the weak plastic strip. If your tabs on your bumper are already broken, it won't help.

it definitely is stronger yes. but it still will separate over time.
the bumper has been slightly revised on the newer cars to have a wider tab and the 3 "pillars" are bigger so it is supposedly less prone to separating.

the revisions can be seen on the thread that i linked earlier.

the revisions are for the standard civic grill design with the gap up top, not the one piece on the 2020 type r.

The OP doesn't but the guy above has a '17 FK7.

the top part of the CTR does not flex as much on the 20s but the tabs are just too weak to hold it. The center pillar should be reinforced to make sure it doesn't start to separate.

you can see it on my own car that has the 2020 grille. and yes bumper tabs are not damaged. The gaps are much smaller on the 20 grille compared to when i had the '17 grille due to it not flexing as bad but still leaves some gaps. I'm just going to put a small dab of plastic weld next time i feel like removing the bumper. It's much more "visible" in person.

I can see the tabs sticking out a little bit. Mines was like this at first then it became the Grand Canyon in a matter of a couple of weeks when we had the record heat wave in so cal. All of my tabs and the part that held the tab broke off. Nothing there now except a gaping hole. I had a friend ask me today “ When did you rear end somebody?”

became the grand canyon hahaha.

I should have done it when i installed my intercooler a few weeks ago but i totally forgot. I'm just lazy to remove the bumper right now. It's a hassle to remove it yourself :(

To anyone looking for a solution I do have one. I simply put 2 screws with black head thru the grill and the bumpers middle column thing as shown in the pics and so far so good I’ll keep y’all updated

Would a strong double sided tape work as well as screws?

Hey guys! I own a 2017 civic type R that I bought new when the car first landed in the USA. I have an issue with the front bumper grill warping. It is warping so much that it broke the clips that is holding on to it on the top area. Is the high heat from the engine causing this? It wasn’t as bad when it first started but got progressively worse since we are having this record heat wave. The clip part that is holding the black grill part completely snapped off. I am currently out of warranty because it’s over 3 years old and 36k miles. Have any of you guys start experiencing this phenomenon?

How about using a front hood bonnet? I have the same problem and I ordered the bonnet. I 'm not sure if I will double tape it under the warped part to prop up the sagging center. But if the bonnet doesn't look like it could withstand the heat under the hood, I might just put the bonnet on top and have it painted with the car's body color
