I just did my first speaker install and it honestly wasn’t awful. Pretty straight forward and simple. The speaker came as sort of a kit and etc so it made it probably even easier. My question is...the stock speakers come with like this foam behind it (however thin).

Picture 4 shows the foam.

Should I look into adding this for my aftermarket one?

Also, I did not install the “grill” over the speaker. The one with the kicker logo.

actually I installed the front center speaker on my sport touring. And I did add foam behind that one. Not sure if the same thing is necessary for the door one. I tested the sound and it’s miles better. The music just hits louder and cleaner without the volume being high.

Hi OP,

That foam is to seal the speaker from air escaping around the back of the cone to the front to have as much low bass as possible. I'd do L side and then compare to the R side stock and see if there is a huge difference. Or, just get some foam tape from HD or Lowes and put it on the rear of the adapters.

Foam is not needed, but can create a better seal.
You don't need the grill.
Adding a processor with time alignment will make a much bigger difference in the bottom end than replacing the speakers.

Opened everything back up and installed the foam. I don’t have a conductor ear. But to me, the sound quality did not diminish like I have read online (that it might happen).

In fact, I feel like the left side (1st side I did) was a little louder than the untouched right side.

There was a few drops of water (rained last 2 days) on one of the harness. I ended up tucking everything inside of the foam cup. My concern about the foam wasn’t as much about sound (which I care about) but it was more to protect the unit.

I hit around 25 on the volume and there is no sound distortion. Everything still came thru pretty clean.

overall, I don’t think I paid more than $70/80 for everything. And it was a nice easy clean install. I am happy...

Have you or anyone else replaced their front / rear tweeters? If you did, what did you go with? How was the install?

Any pictures from the center speaker install. I keep hearing about some audio adaptor that needs to be connected. Any help would work as I will do the install but haven't seen any install videos.

Update just found this stuff called bass foam. You add it to the back of the speaker bolt it down and it fluffs up 4.95 but comes from China
