so i know that the fk8 is prone to “lockout” issues and grinds. however after i had a 2nd gear grind, the transmission completely locked me out of first and was hard to get into second. i was able to get it moving in first but continued to have issues. the video i attatched shows first and second gear are hard to get into, but sometimes easy. other gears are completely fine. what am i looking at here?

Wow, im just gonna say did you inspect your linkage on top of the trans, the 2 locking forks, have someone play with the shifter while you look. If everything checks out good then you know it's inside the cars linkage or trans at that point but I wouldn't drive like that...best of luck

no i did not. honestly don’t have a choice right now haha. i’m not home but im not too far. i’m hoping it’s not a big deal maybe it’s an easy fix. should i flush with synchromesh? if it’s not the outside linkage then there’s an issue with my transmission?

If it's not outside then check the interior..something is not right lol there isn't enough synchromesh in the world to fix that. If you never messed with the shifter replacement then it's not the interior so...if you never messed with the engine bay shifters then .....its prolly your transmission.

i haven’t messed with either..😐

what’s the best plan of action? take it to honda? performance shop?

one thing i dont understand is when im moving, it shifts into second “mostly” fine. and then sometimes it goes into first and second just fine.

I would let Honda dictate what to do. How many miles are on your car and are you modified?

we flushed out the fluid just because IF it was the issue it would be easy, and it helped but it still clinks twice going into first/resistance. not as bad though.

i believe that i’m not under warranty but i should still have honda take a look? 36k. yes i am. inlet/intake pipe, catless downpipe, full exhaust lowering springs, and wheels.

Does the 5yr/60k powertrain warranty cover the transmission? 2021s are aging out of the basic 3yr/36k warranty but you might be on the cusp of that.

If you are tuned, on past posts it looks like you are less likely to get covered but it might still be worth a look. Basic parts installed isn't necessarily a warranty killer, but it also depends on the dealer.

Well that idea of mine is out the window but either way you should have Honda look at it. Could be an easy fix or could be a disaster but should be an easy fix ish. The main reason I'd go to Honda is that they built that trans and have the know how to see what is wrong easier than any other shop but has a high cost so it's a tough pill to swallow

honestly no idea. how do i figure out if i have it? my 3yr warranty ended a little while ago. i am tuned but just a honda basemap and my mods won’t hurt the integrity if i just push it to a complete basemap, so that’s always an option.

If you have a few hundred bucks to spare, let Honda look at it for diagnosis. They will determine or hopefully can replicate the issue. If they recommend R and R then you know it's donski. Could be a clutch issue but they will tell you. If it is R and R. Buy a used trans, take it to a cheaper shop and all fixed.

need more info. Did you get the car used? sounds like you did. If you did, was it at a dealer? I don't like dealers, but take it back to same dealer? Otherwise, find a local reputable shop. Go from there. Unfortunately, i see lot of these used Rs get beat on or something broke and they can't figure it out, so they get rid of them. Then someone scoops it up and drives it for a bit and low and behold....

yes it’s used. i don’t remember off the top of my head but the car seemed fine for a long time and just had the “common” issues yk? i apparently have the 60k power terrain warranty so i can take it back and fight them to cover it. only thing ill do is change the tune back to stock lol.
